Schulte Grahame Hosts Campaign Kickoff for Revere School Committee

Dr. Kathryn Schulte Grahame announced her candidacy for Revere School Committee at a campaign kickoff reception at Antonio’s On The Beach.

Campaign Manager Shannon Turner opened the program. “Katy and I became neighbors when our children were toddlers, and we quickly became friends,” Turner told the large group of supporters in attendance. “For the last few years, we have brought together the Beachmont School PTO. In two short years, Katy worked tirelessly to formalize the organization with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as well as the federal government. Katy has been instrumental in creating change in the community by creating connections with block parties and civic engagement, and we look forward to her taking a seat on the Revere School Committee this November.”

Retiring School Committee member and former Supt. of Revere of Schools Carol Tye formally introduced Schulte Graham, offering a strong endorsement of the candidate.

“I am very happy that I know I will be replaced by a wonderful woman who not only has two children [enrolled in the Revere public schools], but who has started the entire STEAM Program at the Beachmont School,” said Tye. “She’s a university professor at Northeastern, which is ranked as one of top 10 colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report.”

Concluded her remarks, Tye said, “I’m just so pleased that she has agreed to run [for School Committee], and she is running wholeheartedly, and she is setting a good example of what a mother should be, of what a teacher should be, and I hope that we will all be following her on the School Committee because her voice will be one that everyone will pay attention to, because she is the real thing.”

Schulte Graham told her supporters, “Thank you, everyone, my community, for coming out to support me. It means a lot.”

“I called my godmother for some words of wisdom tonight, and she gave me the quote, ‘Strong schools are the foundation of a strong community.’

“Schools are not only where the kids go to learn to read, to learn science, to learn English – that’s not what the whole game is,” said Schulte Graham. It’s also to make lifelong friends, and we come to know ourselves and who we are outside of our family at school. Schools are our second homes. Our teachers and friends become our second families. So, I believe that our schools, like our own homes and families, deserve our love and support. I want to help Revere build a stronger foundation. I want to make sure that our students and our teachers and those who serve in the public schools have the support and tools that they need to be successful. I will make sure that we, as parents and members of the communities have our voices heard and counted.”
