RHS boxers participate in sparring showcase

The Revere Boxing & Outreach Program was well represented Saturday night in Fall River at a sparring showcase sponsored by Bernardo Boxing. Revere boxers were invited to participate in a fundraising exhibition fight to promote the opening of Bernardo Boxing’s new gym and facility in Fall River.

Elias Ruiz, Pedro Rodriguez, Jamil Orchi and Sebastian Orellano were part of the unsanctioned boxing event. According to RPD Officer Joe Singer, one of the founders of the Revere Boxing & Outreach Program, it was more of a developmental bout to gain experience when winners and losers are not declared. Both Ruiz and Rodriguez made their ring debuts at the event.

Earlier last spring, Revere Junior Sebastian Orellana won the Junior Novice 125lb New England King of the Ring Championship fight, while Sophomore Jamil Orchi lost in a split decision to a 16 year old from Nonantum Boxing after a well fought battle. For Orchi and Orellana, it was their first USA Boxing sanctioned event. The five day event featured top amateur boxing with over 450 registered boxers from all over the country and also including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ireland and Canada.
