Millicent M. “Millie” DiBartolomeo

She Leaves a Legacy of Unconditional Love and Resiliency

Funeral Services were conducted in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals for Millicent M. “Millie’ (Russell) DiBartolomeo, 85, who died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20 at the Atrium in Danvers following a long illness. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Millicent “Millie” was born in Boston and raised in Revere, daughter of the late Henry and Gwendolyn Russell. She was a graduate of Revere High School. Millie worked at Filene’s Department Store in downtown Boston in the Women’s Fine Furs department in her younger years.

At a young age, Millie found faith in Jesus Christ and spent the rest of her life following her faith and leading her children to do the same. She served faithfully in many capacities in leadership and was instrumental along with others to maintain the Presence of God in the little chapel in the Point of Pines, Bay Road Chapel. The Gospel, and the love of Jesus, still to this day is preached from that location.

Millie loved the water. She loved to swim. Living very close to Revere Beach, Millie spent many years enjoying the beach and all it offered. Swimming, dancing, living and laughing were her younger years.

The day would come when she would meet her husband, Anthony “Tony,” marry and joyfully raise her four boys in Revere.

After over 60 years of marriage, through good and tough times, Millie and Tony were inseparable. A true testament to “true” love and faithfulness.

She will leave a huge void in her passing in all our lives but leaves a legacy of unconditional love and resiliency that will forever inspire us to persevere and be examples to our family and friends as she did.

Millie was an “overcomer.”

Dorothy A. Milton of Revere passed away at home on June 14. She was 92 years old.

Born in South Boston, the beloved daughter of the late Lucy (Gonsalves) and Justin DeSilva, she was a life-long Revere resident, attended Revere High School and traveled with the glee club as the pianist. She grew up with a piano in her home and played into her late 80’s. She was a gifted piano player of Chopin, Mozart, etc.

Her first date with her husband was roller skating at Revere Roller Rink and later they became competitive artistic skaters together. Dorothy loved being a wife and mother. She traveled the world with her husband, visiting Europe, South America and numerous Caribbean countries. She also loved boating with her family.

After she was widowed, she was a trailblazer, traveled alone and with groups internationally making religious pilgrimages to Israel to walk in Christ’s steps and to see the various other historical Catholic sites including Isolux, France, the burial place of Saint Therese, as well as Mont Saint Michele in Normandy, France and Poland to see Auschwitz, which brought her to tears whenever she recalled touring the gas chambers.

She learned how to play tennis from her son Ron and became a Revere City Doubles Champion, playing in many leagues and winning competitions with her sister Joyce as well.

Widowed at 48, she went to work for a family roller skating business located in Westboro, until she chose to get her resume done at 50 and began working at Shocket Associates as a secretary where she worked her way up the ranks to become the only person in this Federal Property Management firm without a college degree to obtain the position of property manager. She oversaw two multi-unit federally funded properties, one in South Boston and the other in Whitinsville, MA.

She was a devout Catholic, active in the Immaculate Conception Church where she was married, then Our Lady of Lourdes in Beachmont and finally Holy Rosary in Winthrop. She was the Rosary leader at the Lighthouse Nursing Home and ran holiday events in the three Revere nursing homes. She was an active participant in the Revere Food Pantry, walked the streets of Boston with Holy Rosary to feed the poor and always believed in giving back to those less fortunate.
