Eugene ‘Gene’ ‘Hippo’ Capozzi
Raytheon Co. retiree and co-founder of Jaguar Realty
Eugene J. “Gene†“Hippo†Capozzi, a lifelong Revere resident, died at home on Friday, April 22 following a long illness.
Born and raised in Revere, he lived his entire life in Revere and was a 1949 graduate of Revere High School. In January of 1952 he joined the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served until January of 1954 as a member of the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team Special Forces. He attended Boston University seeking an associates degree in Business Administration and then continued on to Northeastern University to secure a Bachelor of Science.
“Gene†went to work for Raytheon Corp. in 1963 as a design engineer and remained there until 1972. In 1981, he and his son-in-law, Stephen J. Pasquale founded Jaguar Realty Corp. of Revere. “Gene†enjoyed the real estate business immensely and naturally had the perfect personality to accommodate his position. “Jaguar Realty†is still in operation.
Later, after formal retirement and unable to “relax,†he secured a position as a salesman with “SYM’S MENS WEAR†in Peabody. Always an impeccable dresser, he was most comfortable in his new found vocation.
“Gene†– “Hippo†began a gradual health decline in 2005, shortly after the death of his beloved spouse, Gloria M.(Cardillo) Capozzi, who passed on October 17, 2004. After residing in Point of Pines for over 40 years, he sold the family home and moved with his daughter and son-in-law to their home.
The devoted father of Mark G. Capozzi and his wife, Penelope of Derry, N.H. and Carla M. Pasquale and her husband, Stephen J. of Revere, he was the cherished grandfather of Gianna M. Pasquale of Revere and Brittany W. Capozzi of Derry, NH; the dear brother of Robert Capozzi and his wife, Marion of Swampscott and the late Gilda Hourihan and Edith Kelley. He is also lovingly survived by nieces and nephews: Deborah Hourihan Ceccarini of Charlton, Lisa Kelley DeGrandis Hanlon of Revere, Kathy Kelley Mahoney of West Peabody, June Kelley Duarte of Huntington Beach, CA, Kevin Hourihan of North Carolina Herb Kelley of Newburyport, Christopher and Michael Capozzi, Jr. and the late Robert Capozzi of Swampscott.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, Revere. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Giustino Pardi
Retired Machinist
Giustino Pardi died on April 15 at the West Revere Healthcare Center. He was 87 years old.
The husband of the late Joan (O’Neil) Pardi, he was born and raised in East Boston, the son of the late Francesco and Maria (D’Amicodatri) Pardi. Mr. Pardi was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 55 years at Randolph-Baldwin in Waltham as a machinist.
He is survived by his son James M. Pardi, Sr. and his wife, Geri of Revere, grandchildren; James M. Pardi, Jr. and his wife, Kristyn of Stoneham and Jennifer Pardi-Squitieri and her wife, Alexa Squitieri of Marblehead; great grandchildren: Juliana , Justin, Jonathan, Giselle and Anjalisa. Mr. Pardi was the brother of the late Domenic Pardi and Nicholas Pardi.

Libero Laura
Decorated Veteran and Commodore of Winthrop Yacht Club
Libero L. Laura, a longtime resident of Winthrop, passed away on April 13. He was 96 years old.
“Leeâ€Â graduated with the Class of 1939 from Winthrop High School. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a waist gunner on B17 Bombers. He was credited with 27 missions over Eastern and Central Europe and received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, two Bronze Stars and the Air Medal with Two Leaf Clusters. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, Lee worked for many years at the Boston Naval Shipyard and the General Electric River Works in Lynn. He was an avid yachtsman and a member and Commodore of the Winthrop Yacht Club for over sixty years. He was also the Commodore of the Mass. Bay Association during the Bicentennial Year of 1976, a member of the Commodores Club of America and the Beachmont VFW Post 6712.
The devoted husband of the late Raphael (Scanzillio) Laura, he was predeceased by his brothers: Bruno and Domenic Laura and a sister, Margaret DePari. Lee is survived by his children, Barbara and Jerry Manfra of Saugus, Geraldine and Robert Gatchell of Revere and Paul Laura of Winthrop; his grandchildren, James and Felicia Nestor of Reading and Paul Nestor of Winthrop and his canine pets, Jack and Bailey.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph R. Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop. Interment was at the Belle Isle Section of the Winthrop Cemetery.
