The City of Revere should be thinking about banning smoking in public places and so too should the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Boston is now considering such an order as two Boston City Councillors have made the suggestion.
Some believe this type of ban on public smoking would be too much of a government intrusion into our privacy and rights.
We disagree.
Smoking kills. Breathing in secondary smoke is dangerous. More than that.
It is aggravating to be seated on your towel on the beach only to be forced to inhale cigarette smoke from the person smoking next to you.
It may be unconstitutional to enact such a ban but many of us would welcome the end of smoking in public places.
