RHS Girls Track Improves to 4–0

The Revere High girls outdoor track and field team kept their perfect record intact with a 91-45 triumph over Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Lynn English last Tuesday.

Among the highlights for coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli’s Lady Patriots, who now stand at 4-0, were:

— Liv Yuong returned from the vacation week and took first places in the high jump with a leap of 4′-8″ and the 100 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 17.7) ;

— Gemma Stamatopoulos grabbed first in the 800 meter run in a clocking of 2:42.8 and tied for second in the high jump. Gemma also ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 relay quartet to score 9.25 points on the day;

— Senior captain Yara Belguendouz won the javelin with a throw of 75′-1″, finished second in the 100 hurdles, and took third in the triple jump to log nine points onto the Revere side of the scoresheet;

— Ashley Cabrera Rodriguez contributed eight points to the RHS tally with a first place in the triple jump with a final landing of 32′-6″ and a second in the 200 dash.

Other first-place performances for the Lady Patriots came from Neyla Vranic in the long jump with a flight of 13′-7.5″, Angelina Montoya in the discus with a toss of 61′-7″; Rania Hamdani in the 400 dash in a time of 68.6; Genevieve Zierten in the 1-mile in 6:19.8, and Rocio Gonzalez in the 2-mile in 12:38.4.

The Lady Patriot quartet of Marwa Riad, Jaliyah Manigo, Rania Hamdani, and Gemma Stamatopoulos sped to victory in the 4 x 400 with a time of 4:43.7.

Another highlight for the Lady Patriots came from the trio of Montoya, Ashley Chandler, and Camila Echeverri, who swept the discus vs. their three English opponents.

Scoring three points with second-place finishes in their events were: Francoise Kodjo in the shot-put; Ashley Chandler in the discus; Hiba El Bzyouy in the 400 hurdles; Jaliya Manigo in the 400 dash; Olivia Rupp in the 1-mile; and Daniela Santana Baez in the 2-mile.

Adding third-place points for Revere were: Marwa Riad in the long jump; Ashley Chandler in the shot-put; Camila Echeverri in the discus; Joelyn Lazo in the javelin; Manal Hazimeh in the  400 hurdles; Basma Sahibi in the 100 hurdles; Giselle Salvadior in the 100 dash; Genevieve Zierten in the 800; and Afnane Amine in the 2-mile.

The Lady Patriots are scheduled to travel to Medford tomorrow (Thursday).

RHS Girls do Well at Relays

A large contingent of members of the Revere High girls outdoor track and field team competed in Sunday’s MSTCA Division 1 State Relay Meet in Franklin and turned in some superb performances that established new RHS school records.

The 4 x 200 quartet of Giselle Salvador, Jaliyah Manigo, Gemma Stamatopoulos, Ashley Cabrera Rodriguez came across the line in a time of 1:56.79 that broke the previous RHS record of 1:58 that had been set in 2017.

In the distance medley relay, the clocking of 14:58.16 turned in by the foursome of Rocio Gonzalez, Gemma Stamatopoulos, Olivia Rupp, and Genevieve Zierten edged the previous mark of 14:58.60 that also had stood since 2017.

The Lady Patriot trio of Rocio Gonzalez, Jocelyn Lazo, Yara Belguendouz established a new school mark in the javelin with their combined throws of 58.68 meters.

In the long jump, the combined flights of 13.79 by Liv Yuong, Marwa Riad, and Neyla Vranic wrote their names into the RHS record book.

Angelina Montoya, Camila Echeverri, and Ashley Chandler combined for a distance of 53.68 meters in the discus to set a new RHS mark.

There also were stellar performances in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays where both teams had season-bests and were very close to school records.

“This is the perfect halfway point for the team as we head into our toughest competition this season,” said RHS head coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli. “I am confident that if the girls keep up this momentum we will continue to see consistent PRs (personal records) and a total rewriting of the RHS record books.”

Boys Track Rolls Past English, 99-20

The Revere High boys outdoor track and field team cruised to a 99-20 victory over Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Lynn English last Tuesday at Harry Della Russo Stadium.

A trio of Patriots who were double-winners in their individual events led the way for coach David Fleming’s squad: Oliver Escobar, who captured the high jump with a leap of 5′-4″ and the 200 dash with a sprint of 23.7; Edwin Alarcon, who took the triple jump with his final landing of 33′-10″ and and the 400 dash in a time of 56.2; and Kevin Purcifull, who won  the shot-put with a throw of 37′-10.5″ and the discus with a spin of 116′-9″.

Additional first-placers for Revere were Jeremy X in the long jump with a flight of 16′-10″; Erick Mayorga in the javelin with a throw of 125′-0″; Amir Yamani in the 400 hurdles in a time of 63.5; Isaiah Decrosta in the 100 hurdles with a clocking of 15.8; Allen Hou in the 100 dash with a sprint of 11.4; Kenan Batic in the 800 in 2:15.9; and Salah Said in the 2-mile in 13:22.6.

Second-place finishers who added three points to the RHS side of the scoresheet were: Amir Yamani in the high jump; Keplar Celamy in the long jump; Bryan Maia in the shot-put and the discus; Oliver Escobar in the 100 dash; Youness Chahid in the mile; and Jeremy X in the 200;

Scoring one point for Revere with third-place efforts were: Erick Mayorga in the discus; Kevin Purcifull in the javelin; and Marcos Carneiro in the 400 dash.

Fleming and his crew are scheduled to travel to Medford tomorrow (Thursday).

Two More Wins for Boys Volleyball

The Revere High boys volleyball team chalked up two more victories over Greater Boston League (GBL) opponents this past week, defeating Lynn Classical, 3-0, and Lynn English, 3-0.

In the Classical match, Larry Claudio sent 25 assists to his teammates and Ruben Rodriguez 17 delivered 17 kills.

Sandwiched between the two triumphs was a 3-1 loss to O’Bryant High of Boston last Friday.

Coach Lianne Mimmo’s squad is scheduled to host GBL rival Medford today (Wednesday) and to travel to non-league foe Madison Park on Friday. They will host GBL opponent Chelsea next Monday and then trek to GBL rival Malden next Wednesday.

RHS Softball Team Tops Lynn Rivals, Now 6–2 in GBL

The Revere High softball team dispatched with a pair of Greater Boston League rivals, Lynn Classical, 16-2, and Lynn English, 12-3, this past week.

In last Wednesday’s romp past Classical, Danni Hope Randall turned in a superb pitching performance, limiting the Lady Rams to five hits over the seven-inning route.

Luiza Santos, Riley Straccia, and Anna Doucette all enjoyed a good day at the plate, with the trio each going 3-for-4, to pace a 16-hit Revere attack. The Lady Patriots also were aggressive on the basepaths, stealing 12 bases on the day.

The Lady Patriots grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a two-RBI base hit by Frankie Reed and never looked back.

This past Monday, coach Meghan O’Donnell’s crew cruised past English to improve to 6-2 in the GBL and hold onto third place, behind only undefeated Medford and once-beaten Everett.

The Lady Patriots were scheduled to meet non-league opponent Saugus yesterday (Tuesday) and travel to Medford today (Wednesday). They will make the short treks to non-league rival East Boston tomorrow (Thursday) and then to GBL foe Chelsea on Tuesday before returning home next Wednesday to meet GBL rival Malden.
