Rhalimi Would Make Political History if Elected to City Council

Councillor-at-Large candidate Alex Rhalimi said he is hoping to become the first Moroccan American elected to a position in government in the United States.

“It would be historical for Revere,” said Rhalimi, who is seeking one of the five councillor-at-large seats in the Nov. 7 election.

Rhalimi has been a leader in Revere’s Moroccan community which he estimates to be between 8,000-10,000 residents. For the past 15 years, he has been involved in Jossour Moroccan Association, a local non-profit. He is also the president of the Moroccan American Congress, a large non-governmental organization (NGO) that exists throughout the United States.

“I’m very proud of my Moroccan heritage,” said Rhalimi, who is fluent in several languages. “It would be an honor to be the first Moroccan-American resident of Revere elected to the City Council.”

Rhalimi was born in Morocco, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa that has a population of 37 million.

“My family came to the United States in the mid 1990s,” said Rhalimi, who grew up in Revere.

Rhalimi is a 2012 graduate of Boston University, where he earned a master’s degree in criminal justice. He is the Principal of Alliance Financial Group, a full financial planning firm helping small, medium size business owners leverage several financial strategies to lower the burden of taxes.

Alex and his wife, Sofia, have two sons, Faris and Jad.
