Revere High Football Set To Renew Rivalry With Longtime GBL Foe Somerville

Revere and Somerville have enjoyed a high-spirited rivalry in all sports through the years. Who can forget when the 1971 Revere High basketball team, led by All-Scholastic Billy Noel, played Somerville in massive GBL title showdowns?

Revere High head football coach Lou Cicatelli played in a few hotly contested Revere-Somerville gridiron matchups in the early 1980s.

The rivalry between the two schools resumed when Revere returned to the GBL after competing in the Northeastern Conference. Cicatelli will take his football team to historic (and remodeled) Dilboy Stadium in Somerville Friday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Both teams will be looking for their first victory of the season.

Revere fell to No. 7-ranked Everett High, 48-6, last Friday night in Everett. Quarterback Carlos Rizo connected with Ahmed Bellemsiel on a 55-yard touchdown pass to produce Revere’s points.

“Everett was every bit as good as advertised,” said Cicatelli. “They’re a highly skilled team. Some of our usual starters were out with injuries. But the players continue to work hard in practice, and we’re hoping that we can put it all together on offense, defense, and special teams against Somerville.”
