The Boston Archdiocese has announced that it will be having a series of discussions with parishioners of closed churches about their future use.
This will include talking with former parishioners of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Beachmont.
The church building has been relegated to what the Archdiocese refers to as profane use – which is any use other than that of a church.
The Archdiocese has made it clear it will not act on the future use of the building before having consultations with parishioners.
Final decisions on what to do with the property is up to the Cardinal.
The Cardinal is wishing to be perfectly transparent in ordering the consultation.
He should be applauded for doing so although the Catholic faithful remain saddened that the Our Lady of Lourdes Church will never open again.
