Authorities make an arrest in Reservoir Avenue homicide

A Revere man has been arrested in the shooting death of a Jamaica Plain man with Revere tires, a homicide that happened on top of Reservoir Avenue last Wednesday evening.

Alen Stijakovic, 19, of 145 Ward St. #10, was arrested for the shooting on Monday and charged with murder. He was arraigned in Chelsea District Court and held without bail.

Police indicated that there would most likely be more arrests in the case coming soon.

The victim, Kareem Spurill, 26, of Jamaica Plain, was apparently sitting or standing near a home in the 300th block of Reservoir Avenue around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29.

The assailants were apparently on foot and fled after the shooting, but not before several witnesses were able to see them.

Using witness statements and additional evidence developed during the investigation by State Police, authorities were able to arrest Stijakovic.

Spurill had once lived on Thornton Street in Revere and had ties to the city, despite currently living in the Bromley-Heath Housing Development in JP. Police said they had some minor involvement with him in the past, logging arrests as recently as 2008.

Stijakovic is a relatively unknown on the local police circuit.

He was apparently a 2009 graduate of Revere High School and, according to his Facebook page, he was a student at Bunker Hill Community College. It also said he was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

He was arrested on the Salem State campus in June for driving with a suspended license.

Other than that, he didn’t appear to have a lengthy record.

Law enforcement sources told the Journal that Stijakovic wasn’t too forthcoming with information, but that they had enough to follow the case to more arrests.
