Many, many Revere residents enjoyed a day at the races at Suffolk Downs Saturday when the 75th racing season got underway with fanfare and a flourish.
Hundreds of Revere residents are employed by the track and have been employed there over the years – and so the opening of the track is a good moment for all those receiving their pay checks from Suffolk Downs.
The conversion of the track into a casino would offer many hundreds more from this city and the area badly needed new jobs. It would also put to work hundreds of unemployed tradesmen and union building trade workers. And when all is finally said and done, the state will have developed a new and profound revenue stream and Revere, for its part, will receive a new revenue stream and the advantages that will follow from such an ambitious development plan for Suffolk Downs.
