Raffaele G. Rizzo

Like So Many of His Generation, He Had a Tremendous Work Ethic

Family and friends attended visiting hours on Tuesday, December 12th in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere for Raffaele G. Rizzo, who died on Saturday, December 9th at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers following a brief battle with prostate cancer. He was 94 years old. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11 a.m., followed by entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery – Versailles Mausoleum, Everett.

Raffaele was born in his native land of Chiusano, San Domenico, Italy. It was there he was raised along with his eight brothers and sisters. He was also educated there and, like many of his generation, he had a tremendous work ethic. Raffaele, worked as a train engineer for the railroad in Switzerland, being away for many months at a time. During this time, he married his wife, Maria G. (DiPierro) and had a daughter and a son while in Italy. Raffaele decided to make a change and moved to the United States in 1966, landing in Boston’s North End, then moving to Revere in 1977.

Raffaele worked as a butcher at Rodman’s in Boston for over 10 years before retiring. He enjoyed being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, nothing mattered more to him than family. He was also a very good handy man repairing or replacing anything that needed to be fixed. His passion was his garden. He loved growing vegetables, fruits and plants. His family always got to enjoy his harvest each year.

The beloved husband of 59 years of the late Maria G. (DiPierro) Rizzo, he was the loving father of Antonietta Picardi and her husband, Robert and Ermelindo “Lenny” Rizzo and his wife, Maria, all of Revere; cherished nonno of Amy Salvati and her husband, Joseph of Salisbury, Robert A. Picardi, Anthony Rizzo, Johnny Rizzo and Linda (Rizzo) Fillion and her husband, David, all of Revere and the late Raffaele “Ralph” Rizzo and his wife, Melissa Rizzo of Revere; adored great nonno of Julian, Mia, Melinda, Jeannett, Julia, Ava, Dylan and Ryder; dear brother of Ermelindo Rizzo of Italy and seven late brothers and sisters.

Giuseppa Cunsolo

She Lived Her Life Devoted to Her Family

Giuseppa (Viola) Cunsolo of Revere died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 9th. She recently celebrated her 82nd birthday on December 4th.

Giuseppa was born on December 4, 1941. Together with her husband, they moved from Pietraperzia to East Boston in 1973 and finally to Revere in 1995. She lived her life devoted to her family, who were always her top priority.

The beloved wife of the late Rocco Cunsolo, she was the loving mother of Vincenzo Cunsolo and his wife, Viviana of Peabody, Michele unsolo and Giuseppe Cunsolo, both of Casale, Italy and Filippo Cunsolo of Revere; cherished grandmother of Rocco Cunsolo of Revere, Vincenzo Cunsolo and his wife, Maria of Somerville, and the late Rocco Cunsolo; dear sister of Maria Viola, Sara Viola, and Calogero “Lillo” Viola, all of Italy and the late Salvatore Viola, the late Concetta Viola, the late Vincenza Salvaggio and the late Fillipo Viola. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, in the United States and Italy.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours today, Wednesday, December 13th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St. Revere. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, December 14th at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere. Joan Sposito

“Of Revere

Joan (Fenno) Sposito of Revere passed away on December 4 at the age of 89.

Born in Newark, NJ on January 27, 1934 to the late Armando Fenno and Mildred (Mastrangelo), she was the beloved wife of 49 years to the late Arthur Sposito, devoted mother of Carl Sposito and his wife, Trina of Billerica, adored grandmother of Nicole Sposito and her fiancé, Anthony Grassetti, and Samantha Sposito and dear sister of the late Marie Serafini and her surviving husband, Robert of Malden. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St, Revere on Friday, December 8 followed by Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Revere. Jean Cabelus

Retired Registered Nurse

Family and friends attended a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 12 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere, for Jean E. (McPherson) Cabelus, who died on Thursday, December 7 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was 80 years old. In keeping with Jean’s wishes, visiting hours were omitted and interment will be held  privately.

Jean was born on January 6, 1943 in Boston to her late parents, William D. and Mary Ruth (Campbell) McPherson. She was one of four children raised and educated in Roslindale. Jean was a graduate of St. Clair High School, Class of 1961. Jean went to business school and next worked at MIT on the Apollo space program as a clerical assistant. Jean then switched career paths and pursued nursing as her career and calling. She graduated from Somerville School of Nursing and became an RN working at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and the VA Clinic in Lynn.

In 1973, she married her husband, Richard Cabelus. The couple moved to Revere and shortly after began their family together. Jean was a proud mother of her two children and provided a loving home. She welcomed her grandchildren happily and proudly. She treasured her family, including her sisters.

Jean supported many charitable organizations, especially My Brothers Table in Lynn. Jean was a woman who loved the beach and water. She was an avid swimmer and would swim Revere Beach, the Paris Street Pool in East Boston, and then later the YMCA of Lynn. Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, historical and political talks, and her political stance.

Hamman and her late husband, Edward. She is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Anthony Capano

Proud Member of Teamsters Local 25

Anthony (Cappy) Capano died peacefully at home on December 4.

Anthony was born on June 19, 1935. He was a lifelong resident of Revere. After attending Revere schools, Anthony enlisted in the US Navy. He traveled the world aboard aircraft carriers. He still would talk about his Navy days with great wonder and appreciation. Anthony then came home to reside in Revere for the rest of his life. He was a proud member of Teamsters, Local 25. He lived close to Revere Beach and loved long walks on the shore. Anthony also loved woodworking. He enjoyed building models with intricate detail, many of which he made for his children. He also loved his flower gardens and took great pride in his plantings. Anthony cherished his three grandchildren and was loyal and dedicated to visiting them every Sunday for the last 17 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Capano) Wells and her husband, Richard Wells of Chester, NH, his sons, Anthony Capano Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Concord, MA., and his son, Michael Capano and his wife, Jaime of Derry, NH along with many nieces and nephews and friends. He was a loving grandfather “Papa” to Ariana M. Capano, Jordan A. Capano and Brody M. Capano. Anthony was pre-deceased by his late wife, Angelina (Spinale) Capano and his parents, Luigi and Rosaria Capano and the loving brother of the late Connie Pantano, Eugenia Russo and Albert Capano.

Family and friends gathered to honor and remember Anthony on Saturday, December 9 at Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Paul Shaughnessy

Retired Machine Tool Technician

Paul J. Shaughnessy, 63, of Lynn, formerly of Revere, passed away on December 8th after a long illness at the age of 63.

Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Linda M.; the cherished father of Joseph P. and his wife, Cindy and Matthew P. and his wife, MaryEllen, all of Lynn; devoted grandfather of Sophia Shaughnessy, Tiffany and Matthew; dear brother of Michael Shaughnessy and his wife, Jeannine of Revere and the son of the late Virginia Shaughnessy of Revere.

Paul was a machine tool technician. He worked all across the country and a former employee of Bridgeport, ANCA and Magellan Aerospace, retiring in 2019 to enjoy being a grandfather, golfing, gardening, wine making, and cooking.
