RHS Girls Track Rolls to 3–0 Record

The undefeated Revere High girls outdoor track and field team rolled to its third straight win of the young season with a runaway 102-29 victory at Lynn Classical this past Thursday.

The top scorer for the coach Racquel MacDonald’s Lady Patriots once again was Ashley Cabrera Rodriguez, who put up a total of 11 points across three events. Ashley took first place in the 100m hurdles (18.6) and the triple jump (28′-7.5″) and third in the long jump (13′-5.25″).

“Ashley has been such a versatile athlete and this meet really just proved that she can succeed in multiple events,” said MacDonald.

Freshman Gemma Stamatopolous tallied 10 points for the Revere side of the scoresheet  with first-place performances in the two-mile run (14:59.7) and the 400m dash (69.4). “Gemma is also going to be a truly versatile runner,” noted MacDonald. “I was excited to see how she would perform in her first sprint event and she absolutely crushed it. We’ll definitely keep moving her around throughout upcoming meets.”

The Lady Patriots swept multiple events, including all three of the throws (shot, discus, and javelin): In the shot-put, the trio of Francoise Kodjo (24′-‘1), Camila Echeverri (22′-11″) and  Sandra Torres (22′-6″) went 1-2-3; in the discus, it was the threesome of Camila Echeverri (59′-2″), Sandra Torres (59′-0″), and Angelina Montoya (47′-7) who took all nine points; and in the javelin, Jovcelyn Lazo (63′-10″), Bella Stamatopoulos (55′-10″), and Rocio Gonzalez (52’-5″)  claimed all nine points.

Revere also swept the 800m, led by senior Alannah Burke (2:48.6), who was followed by Hiba El Bzyouy (3:15.6) and Asmaa Azeroual (3:18.8).

Additional first-place finishers for the Lady Patriots included Luisa Khorsi in the high jump (4′-0″), Marwa Riad in the long jump (13′-8.5″), Basma Sahibi in the 400m hurdles (1:26.5), Giselle Salvador in the 200m (30.4), and Olivia Rupp in the mile (6:24.2).

Adding three points to the RHS cause with second-place finishes were Basma Sahibi in the triple jump (25′-4″), Hiba El Bzyouy in the 400m hurdles (1:27.9), Yara Belguedouz in the 100m hurdles (18.9), Jaliyah Manigo in the 200m (31.2), Luisa Khorsi in the 400m (71.7), and Valeria Sepulveda in the two-mile (15:33.3).

RHS Baseball Team Tops Everett, 8-2

The Revere High baseball team improved to 4-2 in the Greater Boston League and got back to the .500 mark overall with an 8-2 triumph at GBL rival Everett last Wednesday.

The Patriots Revere accounted for all of their damage in the first four innings, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first that expanded to an 8-1 bulge after four fraes.

RHS starting pitcher Dom Boudreau surrendered a hit to the first Crimson Tide batter of the game, and though that runner would ultimately score, it would prove be the one and only hit that Dom would surrender the rest of the way, as the senior cruised to a complete-game one-hitter in which he fanned 13 Everett batters, equaling teammate Kyle Cumming’s season-leading K total from two games ago.

The Patriots displayed some power at the plate, with junior Ollie Svendsen (bases-loaded double), senior Giancarlo Miro (triple), Cummings (triple), and freshman Dom Bellia (triple) all bashing extra-base hits.

Two days later the Patriots came up on the short end of an 8-1 decision to non-league opponent Weston, which plays in the Dual County League and which came into the contest with an undefeated record (4-0) in which they had outscored their opponents by a lopsided 64-12 margin.

Revere struck first when Chris Cassidy reached on a swinging bunt, advanced to second, cleverly stole third, and came home on an error on a grounder by Cummings.  However, that would prove to be Revere’s only run of the day as the Pats struggled to do much of anything against Weston freshman Aidan Murphy, who pitched a complete game, surrendering just four hits, one of which was senior Sonny Blazo’s first of his career.

Revere starter Giancarlo Miro was churning out a good outing, not allowing a single Wildcat to score through the first three innings, before getting in trouble in the fourth.  From that point on, Revere brought in a trio of relievers (Cassidy, Ollie Svendsen, and Pat Keefe) but Weston increased its lead.

In a bright spot defensively for Revere, the Patriots cut down two runners at the plate on throws by Bellia in left field and Boudreau, who was in center.

RHS head coach Michael Manning and his crew’s contest at Somerville this past Monday was postponed to yesterday (Tuesday). They will host GBL rivals Lynn Classical today (Wednesday) and Lynn English on Friday before traveling to Medford next Monday.

RHS Boys Track Posts First Victory

The Revere High boys outdoor track and field team, which encountered a couple of tough losses to start the season, broke into the winning column in a big way with a 96-35 romp at Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Lynn Classical last Thursday.

Isaiah DeCrosta led the list of star performers for the Patriots, winning the high jump with a leap of 5′-0″; leading a Revere sweep in the 400 hurdles with a clocking of 1:03.6; and capturing the 110 high hurdles in a time of 16.0 to tally 15 points for the Revere side of the scoresheet.

Kenan Batic dominated the distance events, outrunning the field in both the mile in 5:19.7 and the two-mile in 12:38.7, to score 10 points.

Sami El Asri was another top multi-dimensional performer for Revere, winning the long jump with a flight of 18′-4.5″ and the 200 dash in a sprint of 23.7 for 10 points.

Adding three points to the RHS scoresheet with second-place performances were: Samuel Burns in the 400 hurdles (1:10.9); Yamen Ismail in the 800 (3:27.3); Youness Chahid in the two-mile (12:38.8), and Allen Hou in the 100 dash (11.6).

Contributing single points with third-place efforts were: Mayorga in the long jump (15′-10.75″); Felipe Maio in the triple jump (33′-6″); Carlos Jimenez in the 400 hurdles (1:17.2) and the 400 dash (1:04.9); Burns in the 110 hurdles in 24.0; Atoui in the 200 (29.7); Mohamed Faras in the mile (5:49.4); and Latrell Ashby in the 100 (12.0).

Tough Loss for RHS Softball Team

The Revere High softball team dropped a nail-biter to Greater Boston League rival Somerville this past Monday, 16-14.

Freshman Danni Randall tossed all seven innings for the Lady Patriots, striking out 13 opponents and yielding eight hits.

Leading the offense for coach Megan O’Donnell’s squad were Shayna Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, and a walk;  senior Emma Cassinello, who was  2-for-5 with two doubles (and whose hard-hit ball in the seventh was caught by Somerville to end the game); Jordan Martelli, who was 2-for-5 with two singles and two walks; Frankie Reed, who went 1-for-5 with three walks and a line drive double to the fence; and Isabella Qualiteri, who drew three bases-on-balls in key scoring opportunities.
