The Revere High softball team endured a pair of tough losses this past week that saw the Lady Patriots lose in their opponents’ final at bat.
“Overall we’re playing well,†said RHS head coach Joe Ciccarello. “But we just can’t seem to finish off our opponents when we have a lead.â€
A chief case in point was a 4-2 loss to Lynn English on Monday. Revere held leads of 2-0 early in the game and then 2-1 entering the sixth frame, but some key fielding miscues allowed English to rally for three runs in the final inning to come away with a 4-2 win.
Sara Selevitch pitched well for the Lady Patriots, but a lack of run support and the aforementioned errors proved her undoing. “Sara has been doing a great job for us on the mound,†said Ciccarello. “All of the hard work she put in during the off season really has paid off. Her success is a testament to the importance of training in the fall and winter.â€
Cassandra Petrola accounted for both of Revere’s runs with a base hit.
A 5-4 loss to Beverly last week saw a similar script, as Revere led 4-2 at one point, only to see Beverly whittle away at the advantage and then score a run in the sixth to emerge the victor.
Selevitch once again turned in an impressive performance on the hill and Ashley DiFraia provided the offense.
Ciccarello and his squad will wrap up the 2010 campaign today (Wednesday) against Peabody and tomorrow afternoon at home against Everett that will be marked by Senior Day festivities.
