Revere head football coach Lou Cicatelli liked very much what he saw from his team’s defense in its GBL game against Lynn Classical on a wet and windy day at Manning Field Saturday.
But the Revere offense failed to reach the end zone and the result was a 14-0 loss to Lynn Classical.
“I thought the defense played spectacularly, and we lost the game on some tough mistakes,” said Cicatelli.
Case in point came on the Patriots’ first drive of the game when they methodically moved the ball 62 yards on the ground before turning the ball over on a fumbled snap at the 1-yard line.
“I think if we get that touchdown, we get momentum, and who knows?” offered Cicatelli.
The game was tied at 0-0 at the half, before Classical scored its first touchdown following an unsuccessful attempt at a fake punt by Revere in its own territory. A Revere fumble set up Classical’s second touchdown.
“It’s been the MO (modus operandi) of this team, this year – a lot of mistakes,” said Cicatelli. “With the mistakes we’re making, you just can’t win football games. We have to do a better job of protecting the football.”
Cicatelli was very pleased with his team’s execution of the defensive game plan that kept Classical scoreless in the first half.
Anthony Pham, Abbas Attoui, Medhi Bellemsiel, Danny Hou, Isaiah Decrosta, and Nico Aguirre excelled on defense, helping to hold Classical well below its season average of 31 points per game.
Abbas Attoui (83 yards) and Giovanni Woodward (50 yards) led Revere’s rushing attack.
Revere hosts Malden Friday at 6 p.m. on Senior Night at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
