Elena Statuto
American Optical retiree
Elena "Helen" Statuto, a Chelsea native and a long time resident of Revere, died on October 25 in the Osceola Regional Medical Center of Kissimee, Florida following a brief illness. She was 87 years old.
Mrs. Statuto was born, raised and educated in Chelsea. In 1950 she married the late Armenio ‘Mal’ Statuto of Revere and moved to this city. She lived in Revere until moving to Kissimmee, Florida in 1986.
Mrs. Statuto retired from the former American Optical Co where she worked as an assembler for many years. For the past 24 years, she has been a devout parishioner of Holy Redeemer Church of Kissimee, Florida.
She was the wife of the late Armenio ‘Mal’ Statuto who died in April of 1998; the sister of Anthony Minchella and his wife, Marion, of Springfield, MA, Rosemarie Quagliato and her husband, Anthony, of East Longmeadow and the late Michelene Roma, Margaret Rubino and Anna Noto. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was also the sister in law of Eda M. Corso of Revere, Mary A. Fulchino of Reading and the late Aurelio and Albert Statuto.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere. Former Proprietor of A.C. Lawrence of Danvers
Robert P. "Bob" King of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Cape Cod, Danvers and Revere, died at the Sea Coast Nursing Center on October 14. He was 87 years old.
Born in Swampscott, he was a veteran and the former proprietor of the A.C. Lawrence Tannery (Leather Company) of Danvers.
He was the son of the late Pierce W. F. King and Katheryn (Haley); beloved husband of Marie (Maiorano); devoted father of Jeff King and Jamie King, both of Danvers, Janice Lovell of Maine and Stephanie Giguere of Florida; dear brother of Marie Morin of Lynn and is also survived by 13 loving grandchildren, many great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Philip Salvatore Vacca
Member of Sons of Italy Soccorso Club
Philip Salvatore Vacca of Revere died on October 23 at the Hammersmith Nursing Care Center in Saugus. He was 94 years old.
Born in East Boston, he lived in Revere for most of his life and was a member of Revere Sons of Italy, Soccorso Club and a retired truck driver.
He was the son of the late Louis and Sarah (Clarusso) Vacca; beloved husband of Annie (Mercurio); devoted father of Diane Clanton of Saugus and Louis Vacca and his wife, Joan, of Melrose; dear brother of Evelyn LaCasia of Revere and the late Anna LaCambria, Mildred Ciccatelli and Andrew Vacca. He is also survived by four loving grandchildren Robert, Mark, Cheryl and Wendi, seven great grandchildren and one late great grandchild.

Of Saugus, formerly of Revere
Janet T. ( Carpineto) Combe died on October 23 at the Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. She was 72 years old.
The wife of the late Arthur Combe, she was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Bruno) Carpineto. She was raised in Revere and was a Saugus resident for the last 47 years. A member of the Saugus Historical Society, she was an active member of the Saugus community.
She is survived by one daughter; Rhonda Combe, of Lynn, one son Arthur Combe Jr. of Lynnfield, two grandchildren; Stephanie and Arthur III. She was the sister of Susie Sulis of Arizona and Jo Ann Carpineto of Revere and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bartholomew G. ‘Bart’ Lewandowski Jr.
Retired Chelsea Firefighter, Star Athlete
Bartholomew G. "Bart" Lewandowski Jr., a retired Chelsea firefighter, died suddenly on October 18 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare Center after being stricken in his home. He was 53 years old.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Bartholomew G. Sr. and Mary E. (Nasuti) Lewandowski. He was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of St. Stanislaus Parochial School, St. Mary’s High School in Lynn, Bunker Hill Community College and Northeastern University.
He was athletic in football, basketball, baseball and track and earned more than 12 varsity letters in a starting position. He played for the semi-pro Northshore Lynn Packers football team. He worked for several years at Kayem Foods in Chelsea and was awarded "Employee of the Year" in 1987. He was appointed to the Chelsea Fire Department on October 31, 1988, was Aide to the Deputy Chief of the Department for several years and retired on April 30, 2008. He was awarded a Department Citation for heroic action on duty and nominated for the Massachusetts’ "Fireman of the Year" in 1999.
He also worked part-time as a professional tractor trailer truck driver and assisted in the "Big Dig" project. He was an expert marksman, a motorcycle enthusiast and a member of Chelsea Firefighters Local 937.
He was the beloved husband of Vernell Lewandowski of Worcester, loving son of the late Bartholomew G. Sr. and Mary E. (Nasuti) Lewandowski and dear brother of Thomas D. Lewandowski and his wife, Debbie, of Newport Beach, CA.

Charles S. Nappi, a professional truck driver, died suddenly while en route to the Whidden Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Everett on October 22. He was 79 years old.
Born in Chelsea, he was raised in East Boston and spent his early days there. He enlisted In the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Knapp. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and was a lifelong member of the "Tin Can Sailors" (National Association of Destroyer Veterans). He resided in Danvers for several years before settling in Revere some 30 years ago. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 25 and was employed at Monarch Foods for many years before his retirement. He was a Life member and past Commodore of the Winthrop Yacht Club and he was a member of the Winthrop Elks and American Legion.

Lillian ‘Gertrude’ Homan
Mother and Artist
Lillian Gertrude (Bonzagni) Honan of Winthrop, born _January 30, 1911, died peacefully at the age of 99 on October 20.
A graduate of Winthrop High School, she attended Simmons College and Boston’s Vesper George School of Art graduating in 1935 with a degree in Costume Design. Employed at Slattery’s Department Store in Boston, she was a pioneer of fashion illustration and design advertising. A lifelong artist, ‘Gert’ was a founding member of the Winthrop Art Association and hosted many art exhibits at her family’s home on Pleasant Street.
In 2007, she held a solo show with more than 150 works of art including mosaic collages, folk art and oil paintings. Everyday household items were the theme of her favorite paintings.
In the mid 1950’s, she and her husband, Bill, opened the Holiday Shop in Winthrop Center. This town center hub provided locals with hand-crafted gifts, Christmas trees, decorations, flowers and gardening products for many years. This family business adjoined Bill Honan’s Texaco gas station. Their Pleasant Street house always bustled with their seven children, along with friends, neighbors, dogs, cats, and even a seagull. Whether she was brewing fresh hot coffee or baking sweet gingerbread, this gathering place was full of love.
Mrs. Honan was deeply spiritual and reached out to those who needed compassion, prayer or a warm meal. Cruising along the north shore in her Fiat or VW bus to Rockport, Marblehead, and Kelly’s of Revere Beach was a summer pastime. Painting ‘en plein’ along the roadside, or walking the beach to gather shells, she found creativity in nature. Journals of her adventures were made into a documentary film in 2010 by one of her grand-daughters.
Her unique sense of style was obvious, bright pink nails and lips, numerous hats, colorful sunglasses, necklaces, socks and silver bangles defined her and she is remembered for her joyful curiosity, intellect and contagious love of life. She was a gifted artist, community member, gardener and friend.
Four of her sons served in the United States military, one in the Army and three in the Marine Corps. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who weaved faith, values, inspiration, optimism and humor into the fabric of her family.
Gert Honan was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Honan and mother of the late, Patric. She is survived by two daughters, Kenny, and her husband, Jack McCurdy, of Barrington, RI, and Kathleen Honan of Revere and her sons, Tony and his wife, Jeannette Honan, of Minnetonka, MN, Bill Honan Jr. of Annapolis, MD, Stephen and his wife, Helen Honan, of Winthrop and Richard and his wife, Mary Ellen Honan, of Winthrop. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Anthony A. and Lillian I. (Ellis) Bonzagni.

Ruth (Greenfield) Novin, a long time resident of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, died on October 24 at the Beth Israel Hospital. She was 79 years old.
Born in Chelsea, she attended the Chelsea schools and graduated from Chelsea High School. She was a longtime employee of the Boston Globe and Boston Herald newspapers and an avid Bridge player.
She was the devoted mother of Mitchell Novin and Jonathan Novin; the loving daughter of the late Nathan and Esther Greenfield; the dear sister of the late Ronald Greenfield and Fred Greenfield and the loving grandmother of Nick and Alex Novin.

Agatha (Forti) Wood of Beachmont, Revere died on October 21.
Mrs. Wood worked for State Street Bank for 30 years. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where she taught religious education. When not helping others, she enjoyed knitting, bowling and bingo.

William Eugene O’Brien

William Eugene "Bill" O’Brien of Seabrook, NH, formerly of Revere, died on October 23 following a brief illness. He was 84 years old.
One of eight children of the late Edward and Bridget (Flaherty) O’Brien from Revere, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific along with all five of his brothers; Frank, Walter, Edward, Joseph and Robert.
A US Postal Service employee for over 40 years, following his retirement from the postal service, he worked for the State of Massachusetts. His loves were his family, the beach, and the Boston Red Sox. Fenway Park was like a second home.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara O’Brien whom he married on August 5, 1951; his devoted daughters, Bonnie O’Brien-Weich and her husband, Eddie, of Texas and Susan O’Brien Boone and her husband, Harry, of New Hampshire; his sister, Joan Nixon of California and his grandchildren, Jin and Andy Welch of Texas. In addition to his late parents and five late brothers, he was also the brother of the late Rita Cotter. All of his family and friends, and even his cats, will miss him dearly.

Mildred G. "Millie" Hudson of Cambridge, formerly of Revere, died on October 15. She was 83 years old.
A Massachusetts General Hospital retiree, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Cupip) Hudson; sister of the late James Hudson and Evelyn Martin and is also lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Aiello of Medfield, formerly of Boston’s North End, died on October 22 in Norwood, MA. She was 88 years old.
The beloved wife of the late Joseph Aiello Sr., she is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Skapers and her husband, John, of Dover, MA and Phyllis Daigle and husband, Raymond, of Hopkinton as well as her son Joseph Aiello Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Bellingham, MA. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Lucy Ciulla and Anna Palazzolo, both of Medford, Lillian Conti and her husband, Robert, of Revere, Josephine Gasdia and husband, Anthony, of Somerville. She was the sister of the late James Maniscalco. She is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
