Three Revere girls compete at MSTCA  Pentathlon last week

Three members of the Revere High girls track team, senior captain Dayana Ortega, senior captain Basma Sahibi, and sophomore Zizi Kalliavas, competed in the MSTCA Pentathlon Meet that was held last Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.

“This was the first Pentathlon for all three of these girls,” said RHS head coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli of the competition, which features five events, the long jump, high jump, shot-put, 800 meter run, and 55m hurdles.

Senior captain Dayana Ortega was the top scorer for the Revere squad, placing 72nd out of 116 girls and scoring 1677 points total.

“Dayana’s top event was the 55m hurdles in which she PRed by over .1 second for a 9.90 time,” said  MacDonald-Ciambelli. “Dayana’s goal all season was to break 10 seconds in the hurdles, so to see her get there on her last indoor meet was so exciting. It also sets her up for a great transition to the 100m hurdles outdoors where she truly excels.”

Zizi Kalliavas was close behind Dayana at 89th overall, scoring 1493 points total. Zizi also PRed in the hurdles with a time of 10.72. “This was Zizi’s first time competing in the long jump and she jumped 13′.25″, which is also very impressive. This will definitely be an event she continues to pursue during the outdoor season.”

Senior captain Basma Sahibi unfortunately had to pull out of the competition early due to illness. Without competing in the LJ and 800m, Basma still scored 1073 points total. She also was able to throw very close to her PR in the shot put with a toss of 23′.5″.
