Girls’ Soccer Is Alive and Thriving in Revere

By Melissa Randall

Revere’s Under 14 youth soccer team, the Revere Lightning, finished their Fall 2023 Season with an impressive 6-1-1 record and the best defensive record in their group. The team only allowed seven goals the entire Fall 2023 season. Part of Revere Youth Soccer, the Revere Lightning plays in the Essex County Youth Soccer Association in the competitive Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) Division.

The team is comprised of 8th graders Eleni Abdula, Gabriella Aguilar, Co-Captain Andrea Basta, Giselle Cardona, Jelitza Jerezano, Mariana Jimenez, Amy Mendoza, Co-Captain Sharon Olivia, and Valentina Ramos, and 7th graders Kimberly Benitez, Isabella Coral, Sofia Garcia, Eliana Hernandez, Edlyn Hernandez, Camila Martinez, Brooke Rose, Valeria Ruiz, Carolina Vejar and Siobhan Zierten.

The Revere Lighting is led by Head Coach Hestick Villa, Assistant Coach Armando Aguilar, and Team Assistant Marylin Cardona.  The team had an exciting fall season, which came down to a deciding last game for the top spot in the group. Falling short 2-0 in a nail-biting last game and coming in 2nd in their group, the Revere Lighting showed resilience, mental toughness, and a competitive spirit that will only improve once the team returns for their Spring 2024 season.

According to Assistant Coach Aguilar, “The future is looking very bright for girls’ soccer in Revere; along with the Revere Lightning. There are two other girls teams for younger girls, the girls Under 12 team (Revere Cyclones), and Girls Under 10 Girls Team (Revere Cheetahs). Both also had a great fall Season.”

A non-profit organization and community program, their philosophy is “At Revere Youth Soccer, we dedicate to develop and guided our youth players with the fundamental basic skills – it’s our priority to serve our Revere youth community.  our team coaches, parents & volunteers are excited to see their kids playing real games and how the program is there to support it. That’s why we work hard to provide them the best quality time.”
