RHS Soccer Teams Kick Off This Week

The Revere High girls and boys soccer teams opened their 2023 season yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. Coach Megan O’Donnell’s girls hosted Greater Boston League rival Malden, while the boys trekked to Malden.

The girls will play an 18-game schedule, meeting all seven GBL foes (Somerville, Malden, Medford, Chelsea,  Revere, Lynn Classical, and Lynn English) twice each and taking on non-league opponents Boston International, Northeast Regional, and Boston Collegiate (twice).

“The varsity team has almost everyone coming back with a few new faces to the team,” said veteran Lady Patriot head coach Megan O’Donnell. “We have a core group of freshmen who are going to replace the graduating players. I feel like this year’s team is a solid core group who have been starting since their freshman year. The coaching staff is very confident that we should be a GBL contender this year.”

The 2023 edition of the girls soccer team will be led by senior captains Samarah Paiva, Ari Pina, Jessica Galvez, and Giselle Salvador.

“Senior Catalina Chizavo is looking to have a huge year at outside midfield,” said O’Donnell. “Erika Mejia, Sandra Torres, and Fatima Oliva are all looking to have a great junior year. Goalie Nisrin Sekkat is looking to dominate this year.”

After yesterday’s match with Malden, O’Donnell and her crew will trek to Somerville tomorrow (Thursday) and will entertain Boston International next Monday.

The boys will host Somerville tomorrow (Thursday) and will trek to Lynn Classical next Tuesday. The Patriots have a 15-game schedule, with 14 contests vs. GBL schools and one non-league encounter vs. Excel Academy in the final contest of the season.
