Gloria Haggerty

She was Loved Beyond Measure

Gloria A. (D’Eon) Haggerty of Collinsville, IL, 85, born on October 29, 1936, in Haverhill, died on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.

Gloria was a bank teller at Stockyards National Bank, 1st St. National Bank of St. Louis and Bank of Edgemont during her banking career. She was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

A family woman who took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, she was a devoted friend and sister, always looking for the next way to help. She was a faithful parishioner who loved serving her community. Above all, she was loved beyond measure.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Haggerty, Jr., her parents, Joseph Leander and Catherine Marie D’Eon and her siblings, Raymond McLaughlin, Joseph Harvey D’Eon and Louise Kathleen D’Eon.

Gloria is survived by her children: John B. (Sandra A.) Haggerty III and Michael V. Haggerty; her grandchildren, Mikie M. Miller, John B. Haggerty IV, Ian Michael Haggerty, LeeAnn Michelle Haggerty, Kyle  Charles Smith, and Amy Lynn Smith Haselhorst, nine great-grandchildren and her siblings: Mary Elizabeth Dusz, Marie Yvonne Taglieri, Joel Stephen D’Eon, June Theresa D’Eon and Kathryn Marie D’Eon.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 12 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd.,

Fairview Heights, IL.  Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Dorothy Sena 

She Leaves Her Family with Many Wonderful and Happy Memories

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt.107) Revere for Dorothy F. (Bradley) Sena, 87, who died on Friday, April 8 at the Twin Oaks Center in Danvers following a brief illness. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11 a.m. immediately followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Dorothy was born in Chelsea to her late parents, Hugh A. and Rita (O’Brien) Bradley, she was one of nine children. She was educated in Chelsea Schools and at a young age, she married her one and only love, Angelo “Junie” Sena, Jr. The couple were married and settled in Revere in 1953.

Dorothy was a proud homemaker and loving wife and mother. Later in life, when her children were in school, she worked various jobs, in particular at Pewter Pot. Dorothy with her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world. Their travels took them to Tahiti, Aruba, Las Vegas and many other destinations. She was also a Keno enthusiast and loved making her casino trips to Foxwoods.

She also loved to dress up and dine out. Dorothy enjoyed fashion in very sense of the word. She would always look her very best, no matter where she was going or the occasion. She was independent and lived in her own home up until very recently. She leaves her family with many wonderful and happy memories.

The beloved wife of 55 years to the late Angelo “Junie” Sena, Jr., she was the loving mother of Pamela J. (Sena) Clapp and her husband, Robert of North Fort Myers, FL and the late Thomas J. Sena, Sr. and his surviving wife, Denise E. (Strianese) Sena of Revere; cherished grandmother of Alison J. Scali and her husband, Joseph of Peabody, Jennifer J. Sena of Brockton, Thomas J. Sena Jr. of Revere, Meaghan A. Clapp of Chelsea and Kelly R. Clapp of Kissimmee, FL;  the adored great grandmother of Joshua, Jordon, Travis and Brynleigh Mae; dear sister of the late Gerald, William, Hugh, Jr., Herbert, Laurence, Richard, Robert “Dukie” Bradley and Rita Dente. 

She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Karen Ross

Her Legacy to Her Family Was to Live Life With Those You Love

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, April 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt.107) Revere for Karen F. (Evans) Ross, 82, who died on Friday, April 8 at the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following a brief illness.

A Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home at 6:15 pm. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Karen was born and raised in Waterbury, Ct., one of five children of Thomas J. and Eva M. (Normand) Evans. She was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1958 in Waterbury.

While on vacation on Cape Cod, Karen met and fell in love with her future husband, John J. “Jack” Ross. The couple, later married on April 11, 1964. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage. They settled in Revere, where they began their life together and raised their family.

Karen was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She took great care of her family and loved them unconditionally.

Karen worked for over 25 years at the Shirley Credit Union, later becoming St. Jean’s Credit Union, as a bank teller. While she was at her job, she had the unwanted privilege of being “Held Up,’ not once, or twice, but four times. Something she often joked about, one time handing the robber back the note that he misspelled with the corrections.

Karen also enjoyed a well-traveled life with her husband and children. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe and many other destinations.

Of course, anyone who knew Karen, knew that her number one spot was Las Vegas. She truly enjoyed the Casinos, the shows and made lifelong friends along the way. Karen was all about fun and family, she always made sure that she would stop and see her family in California and Connecticut.

Her legacy to her family was to live life with those you love.

The beloved wife of 58 years to John J. “Jack” Ross, Sr. of Revere, she was the loving mother of John J. Ross, Jr. and his wife, Kelley of Saugus and Kerry E. Hayward and her husband, Michael of Peabody; the cherished grandmother of USAF Master Sergeant John J. Ross, III., Tamaryn A. McAlees and her husband, USAF Master Sergeant Garett McAlees, all of Las Vegas, NV., Meghan E. Ross of Arizona, Keira C. Hayward and Alexa E. Hayward, both of Peabody, Nathan R. Hayward and Patrick J. Hayward, both of Portsmouth, NH; the treasured great grandmother of Jessica, Brennan, Alison, Shea and Logan; adored sister of Brian Evans and his wife, Mary of Prospect, CT and the late Maureen McGrath, Thomas Evans and Patricia Caruso; dear sister-in-law of Robert and Mary Wesley and Lawrence and MaryJo King, all of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jennie Longo

Her Beautiful Face, Bright Smile and Selfless Heart Warmed Anyone She Met

Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 11 in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals,  for Jennie Longo, 96, who died on Monday, April 4 at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, following a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease.

A Revere native, she was born and raised in Revere, one of eight children of her late parents, Ralph and Jennie (Palomba) Longo. She was educated in Revere Schools,

And, like many families during her era, had to put the family ahead of anything else.

Jennie went to work as a young woman. She later met and married her husband, Samuel S. Avola, Jr. The couple remained in Revere where they raised their four children. Jennie was the epitome of “mother”, she worked tirelessly keeping her home and raising her children. She went above and beyond in every aspect to satisfy her family’s needs.

When her children came of age, Jennie became a homemaker and did what she did best, caring for people who needed help. In 1992, Jennie moved to Saugus where she remained for eight years before moving to Lynn.

Her beautiful face, bright smile and selfless heart warmed anyone she met. She was pure and genuine.          

Jennie worked as a homemaker for about 12 years before retiring. Her favorite time was spent with her family. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren–to her there was no better place to be.

To her family she was Mom, Ma, Nana and, of course “Sugar.”

Her personality would steal the show wherever she went, especially her favorite restaurant, Billy Tse’s in Revere.

Jennie was always full of life and eager to make new friends and she always ended up becoming everyone’s favorite.      

Jennie was always fiercely independent until her declining health became more serious. She became a resident at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea and there too she was fondly thought of and loved. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit and memories will shine through all of her family because of the Queen she was.

She was the beloved former wife of the late Samuel S. Avola, Jr., loving mother of Judy A. Malloch and her late husband, Michael G. of Revere, Marie Avola of Topsfield, Janet M. Calcagno and her husband, Angelo of Saugus and Samuel S.” Sammy” Avola, III and his wife, Lisa of Salem; proud and cherished grandmother of six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; the dear sister of Rudolph J. “Rudy” Longo and his late wife, Mary of Stratham, NH, Edna Ganzer and her late husband, William of St. Paul, MN, Arlene Fuller and her late husband, Donald of Billerica, Priscilla “Pat” Macdonald and her late husband, Robert of Pickerington, OH and the late Anthony Longo and his wife, Evelyn, Robert Longo and his wife, Grace and Mary Scholl and her husband, Raymond. She is also lovingly survived by her former son-in-law, John Tammaro of Topsfield and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mary “Sis” Keegan

Passed Away One Month Shy of Her 102nd Birthday

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, April 12   in the Immaculate Conception Church for Mary T. “Sis” (Sullivan) Keegan who died on Friday, April 8 at the Hebrew Senior Life Center in Boston. She was one month shy of her 102nd birthday. Interment took place in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

“Sis” was born in the Mission Hill Section of Boston, raised in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools.

She later married and had one son, Richard F. Keegan. Sis was a devoted mother and worked to support herself and her son. A secretary at the Boston Naval Shipyard for well over 20 years, she then took another administrative position at the JFK Federal Building in Boston from where she retired.

Along the way, Sis lived in Charlestown, Weymouth and later in Revere.

She was a woman who was full of energy, fun and love. She lived in Weymouth with her niece, Terri and her husband, Joe and their two boys, TJ and Patrick for about 15 years. Sis was their surrogate grandmother and she did everything a grandmother would do for her grandsons and more. After the boys were of age, Sis settled in Revere, closer to her own son, and she lived a happy and fun filled life. She was an active member at the Rossetti Senior Center and also a member of the Swampscott Cribbage Club. She was still playing cribbage just a week before her passing.

Family was always very important to Sis and she always enjoyed being surrounded by family.

She was the loving and devoted mother of Richard F. Keegan of Revere, treasured sister of the late John J. Sullivan, Jr., Katherine T. O’Connor, Joseph, Thomas, Patrick, Edward Sullivan and Julie Persico and the cherished aunt of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
