Beverly Daigle

Former Bartender at DeMaino’s Restaurant and the ITAM Post

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, December 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) Revere for Beverly A. (Bailey) Daigle, who passed following a long illness on Saturday, December 18 at the Kaplan Family Hospice of Danvers. Her Funeral Service will be conducted immediately following the visitation in the Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Interment will be held privately.

Her death comes only 14 days after the passing of her 99-year-old mother, Lena R. “Lee” (Aldorisio) Bailey.

Beverly was born in Boston and the family moved to Worcester in her early years. She came to Revere with her family, was schooled here and was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1958. 

Beverly worked soon after her children were born.  She worked in the hospitality industry after receiving her Bartenders License. For a time, she was with the Top Hat Lounge, which became Stars, in Peabody. She later worked at the ITAM Post on Lucia Avenue in Revere for some years. Her last and happiest time was the almost 10 years she worked as a bartender at DeMaino’s Restaurant in Revere. Beverly’s most engaging personality drew not only her faithful customers but also won her many, many friends.

Beverly was the daughter of the late Lena R. “Lee” (Aldorisio) Bailey, Francis J. Bailey and William Quinn; the beloved and proud mother of Carol Gerard of Tewksbury, Francis J. Daigle of Dorchester, Saugus Police Detective John B. Daigle of Saugus, Eric M. Daigle of Dracut, Michelle L. Daigle of Lowell, Patricia L. Daigle of Revere and  the late Robert Daigle of the Cayman Islands. She was the dear sister of Patricia l. Bailey–Childers of Coral Gable, FL., Joanne Bernard of Tennessee, Joyce Maher and her husband, Kevin of Salem, William Quinn and his wife, Sue of Topsfield and the late Carolyn Joyce Bailey, the late Wayne Quinn and his surviving wife, Joanne of Washington State.

She is also lovingly survived by 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and her best friends,

Richard Oliver and Carole Nutile of Revere. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mary Fortucci

Her Personality and Her Food Were Loved by All

Mary A. (Froncioni) Fortucci of Melrose, formerly of Revere, passed away on December 18 at the age of 96.

Born in Quebec, Canada on June 3, 1925 to the late Joseph and Anne (Fasoli) Froncioni, she was raised in Quebec and attended school there before coming to the United States.

She was the beloved wife of the late Carlo Fortucci, loving mother of the late Robert Fortucci and the late Patricia Wojcik, proud grandmother of Carla, Robert and Josh and is also survived by two great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Christine Bean, Rita Froncioni, and the late Robert Froncioni. 

Mary and her late husband Carlo raised their family in Revere, where they lived for many years. She also lived in Boston and in Melrose for the last 20 years at the Steele House. Mary volunteered as bookkeeper at the Steele House for many years, for Bingo and other events. She was fluent in both French and Italian. Mary was a fantastic authentic cook in her kitchen and her personality and food were loved by all.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, today, Wednesday, December 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Service at 11 a.m. will be followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St., Everett. James Angelo Buono

Late Commission Judge for Mass. State Racing Commission

James Angelo Buono of East Boston passed away on December 17. 

He was the late Commission Judge for the Massachusetts State Racing Commission.

The beloved husband of Rita (LaVertue) Buono, he was the loving father of James Buono and his wife, Suzane of Melrose, Jared Buono of East Boston, John Marzilli and his wife, Kristine of Wilmington and Renee Waters and her husband, William of Plymouth; dear brother of Francine Billet of New York, Rosalind E. Faretra of Winthrop and the late Leopold “Butchy” Buono. He is also survived by five loving grandchildren: Cameron, Kai, Lily, Kael and James. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston, today, Wednesday, December 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral procession to St. Joseph-St. Lazarus Church, 59 Ashley St., East Boston for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in his honor at 12 noon. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Thomas Doherty

Retired Revere Police Sergeant, US Marshall and Former Architect

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 758 Salem St., Lynnfield, today, Wednesday, December 22 at 11 a.m. for Retired Revere Police Sergeant, Thomas E. Doherty. Please meet directly at Church. Per order of the Archdiocese of Boston, masks are required in the Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery – Versailles Mausoleum, Everett.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Thomas E. Doherty managed his illness with strength, valor and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.

Thomas passed away on December 15 at the age of 83.  On his final day, he was surrounded by his beloved wife of 50 years and his three daughters, who he adored more than anything else in this world. His legacy will live on the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with.

In 1957, he joined the U.S. Army and after his tour was complete, he earned his Architectural Degree at Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston Architectural College. He spent many years working as an architect and designed many commercial buildings located in Boston, including the Cambridge Court House, and the church where he married his wife.

In 1973, he moved on from architecture and found the career that he loved as he joined the Revere Police Department, where he served the community with integrity and honor for thirty-five years.  He firmly believed that people deserved a second chance or sometimes even a third and treated everyone he encountered with respect and understanding.

He retired as a Sergeant from the Revere Police Department in 2003 and soon thereafter became a United States Marshal and began working at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse in Boston.

Thomas enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved going out for a nice meal with his family, going to the movies, playing the lottery, reading books, watching Fox News and TV documentaries about history, boating at Wingaersheek Beach, coffee dates with his wife and dog Natasha, riding his lawn tractor, investing in the stock market, watching movies, swimming in the ocean and in his pool, diving, shooting at the range, traveling to Florida and Aruba, whiskey toasts with his son-in-law, Jarrod and playing with his grandchildren who adored their Papa. 

Thomas is survived by his beautiful wife, Marilyn T. (Prizio) Doherty of Saugus. He was the loving and proud father of Andrea T. Doherty – Marino and her husband, Anthony L. of Lynnfield, Danielle M. Doherty – Wirwicz and her husband, Jarrod D. of Middleton and Evelyn T. Doherty – Terfry and her husband, Christopher M. of Lynnfield; treasured papa of Angelina TD., Gianna D., Mason J., Thomas J. and John C. and his late Maltese Dog, Natasha; dear brother of Noel F. Doherty and his wife, Marcia of Woburn and the late James N. Doherty, Jr. and Sheila A. Tomkins. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, friends, fellow Revere Police Officers and U.S. Marshal men and women.

Gerald Pollastrone, Sr.

Union Plumber and Revere Housing Authority Retiree

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, December 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) Revere for Gerald L. “Jerry” Pollastrone, Sr., 82, who died on Wednesday, December 15 after a brief illness. A Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home following visiting hours at 12: 15 p.m. Interment will be held privately.

Jerry was born in Boston on February 1,1939 to Paul P. and Mary (Stella) Pollastrone. Raised in East Boston along with his brother, Ralph, he was educated in Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1959.

Jerry enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and proudly served his country for eight years as a reservist. He became a union plumber in the Boston Local 12. He put his time in and then worked for the City of Revere Housing Authority as a plumber until his retirement.

He was married to Carole A. Nickerson Pollastrone for 40 years. Together they lived in East Boston and then Revere where they raised their children, until moving to Everett in 2010. Jerry was a very loving husband and father who instilled moral values and respect in his children. He demonstrated to his family wisdom with words and actions that he lived by. He was always present in his children’s lives and attended any school or athletic event they were involved in.

Jerry was also a man who liked to laugh, joke and have a good time. He was all about being happy and living each day surrounded by the people he loved. Throughout his life, he was very active and athletic. He enjoyed playing golf as often as he could. He was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues. He also played in a men’s over 40 softball league.

The beloved husband of 40 years to Carole A. (Nickerson) Pollastrone of Everett, he was the loving and proud father of Paul Pollastrone of Revere, Gerald l. “Jerry” Pollastrone, Jr. and his wife, Krista of Moultonborough, NH, Leanne Pollastrone and her companion, Victor Calheta of Everett; adored “Papa J.” of Ayla Leigh; dear brother of the late Ralph Pollastrone and special uncle of Linda Pignone and her husband, David, Kenneth Pollastrone and his wife, Jean and Laurie Pollastrone, all of Florida.

He is also lovingly survived by many friends and extended family.

Joseph Oreto, Sr.

Polaroid Retiree

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, December 27

at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere for Joseph Oreto, Sr., 87, who passed after a long illness on Saturday, December 18 at the VA Boston Healthcare System of Brockton. Please meet directly at church.

Per order of the Archdiocese of Boston, masks are required in church. Interment

will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 p.m.

Born, raised and a lifelong resident of Revere, he was a graduate of Revere High

School, Class of 1952. In August of 1954, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and

served honorably until his discharge on August 15, 1958 as a Sergeant.

He married to his one and only, Emily J. (Caddle) Oreto, and they had five children. Emily was stricken with metastatic cancer and passed on October 16, 1980 at only 42 years of age. “Joey” was faced with raising five children, with help from his

Mom and Dad, the late Joseph M. Oreto and Grace M. (Fabiano) Oreto and other Oreto family members.

He had a thirty-six-year career with Polaroid Corp., as a lead mechanic within the Film Department. He was prompted to take an early retirement in 1999 and continued to be a dedicated dad, grandpa, son, brother and uncle.

He was the proud father to Deborah J. McToomey and her husband, Michael of Quincy, Joseph S. Oreto, Jr. and his wife, Sonia of Revere, Ronald S. Oreto of Medford, Darrin J. Oreto of Revere and Scott C. Oreto of Weymouth; cherished grandpa to seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren and dear brother of Lillian F. Hibbard and her husband, Hugh of Revere and the late Frank P. Oreto and the late Carol A. Consolo. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
