Rocio Gonzalez Castillo Competes in State Meet

Rocio Gonzalez Castillo competed this past Saturday in the MIAA Division 2A girls cross country race in Gardner.

“It was a beautiful day for running and another challenging course,” said RHS girls head coach Katie Sinnott. “A golf course run is always difficult and when you are facing the best in their leagues, that adds an extra challenge.

“Rocio pushed out hard to start the race and held on to her pace as long as she could,” Sinnott added. “She toughed-out a finish, and finished about midway through the pack. Her overall time for the 5K was 24:59, earning her a 73rd place finish.”

Last week Rocio, a sophomore who finished in sixth place in the Greater Boston League Meet to pace the RHS girls to a third-place ranking in the GBL, ran in the Frank Mooney Invitational Meet. “It was a gorgeous running day and Rocio gave everything she had on the course,” noted Sinnott. “She finished in 60th place (out of 113) with a final finish time of 23:52 for the 5K over a challenging course filled with consistent rolling hills and three loops
