Simpson shines in victory over Classical

The Revere High girls indoor track team, led by Jessica Simpson’s 6.33 points, defeated Lynn Classical last week, 53.66 to 27.34, as the Lady Patriots captured six of the nine first places in the meet.

Jessica won the 1000 in a time of 3:34.6 and tied for second in the high jump with a leap of four feet, two inches. Other first place finishers for Coach Samnang Ros’s squad were: Briana Scata with a shotput toss of 28-8.5; Theresa Santiano McHatton, who sped to victory in the 50 yard dash in 6.7 seconds; Colby Hough in the 600 in 1:51.7; Tayla Hough in the mile in 6:08.3; and Joanna Greene in the two mile in 14:04.

Second place efforts, which added three points to the Revere cause, were turned in by: Amanda Digitale with a time of 6.7 in the dash; Camden Sigouin in the 300 in 48.3; Brittany Brown in the 600 in 2:02.6; Andrea Ornelas in the 1000 in 4:04.3; and Jessica Loeser in the mile in 6:50.5.

Third place finishers who contributed single points to the Revere scoresheet were: Samantha Harris with a shotput throw of 24-10.5; Ha Nguyen in the 300 in 51.2; Maria Dreeszen in the 600 in 2:12.4, which completed a sweep for the Lady Patriots in that event; and Kassandra Digitale in the two mile in 15:48.

Elizabeth Nutile tied for second with Simpson and a Classical girl in the high jump, which meant that those four points were split among the three girls, who earned 1.33 points each for their team.

Ros and a large contingent of his team made the trek to the Reggie Lewis Center Sunday for the State Relay Meet. The quartet of Colby Hough, Jessica Simpson, Taren Kershaw, and Tayla Hough turned in the most impressive performance of the day in the 4 x 400 as their time of 4:31.59 qualified them for the State Meet later in the season.

Other Revere girls who competed Sunday were: Lindsay Gurska, Sara Boukdad, Leanne Rizzo, and Liz Nutile in the 4 x 50 shuttle hurdles in a time of 35.72; Tayla Hough, Camden Sigouin, Chelsea Amaya, and Kershaw in the 1600 sprint medley in 4:49.90; Colby Hough, Ha Nguyen, Samantha Harris, and Jess Simpson also in the 1600 sprint medley in 4:50.22; Amanda Digitale, Ha Nguyen, Camden Sigouin, and Theresa Santiano-McHatton in the 4 x 200 in 2:04.87; Jennifer Dandrow, Mondy Telfort, Chanyce Kane, and Paola Rudecindo in the 4 x 50 shuttle hurdles in 39.71; Theresa Santiano-McHatton, Chelsea Amaya, Samantha Harris, and Amanda Digitale in the 4 x 50 relay in 26.91; and Briana Scata, Crystal Prizio, and Noelle Galli in the shoptput.
