Phyllis Cesso

Former Revere Crossing Guard and Teacher’s Aide

Phylllis M. (Vivolo) Cesso of Revere, died on December 3.

Phyllis grew up in Boston’s North End where she met and married her husband. Together they shared 56 years of marriage and three children, whom she loved dearly. She also adored her six grandchildren who brought her countless moments of joy. Whether she was attending one of their sporting events, dance recitals or plays, she was always honored to be there supporting them.

Phylllis loved the North End and especially celebrating St. Anthony’s Feast each year. She was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed watching and routing for all the teams during each season. She also loved watching mystery and crime shows with her husband, a retired Boston Police Detective.

Above all, Phyllis was known for her culinary skills. She could be found awake at midnight cooking a meal or baking desserts for her family. Cooking was her true passion, and she could talk for hours about all kinds of different recipes!

She was employed by the City of Revere as a crossing guard, and then as a teacher’s aide for many years. She still told stories about all of the children she remembered teaching, and truly loved caring for and educating them.

Phyllis was enthusiastic about being active. She went to the gym where she partook in many classes and loved walking Revere Beach with her late best friend, Dottie Nardone. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club, where she met many wonderful friends, whom she always spoke so fondly about.

Everything Phyllis did, she did for her family. She was selfless, giving, trustworthy, caring and gracefuland her classy presence will certainly be missed.

She was the beloved wife of B. Anthony, the devoted mother of Carla and her husband, David, Anthony and his wife, Annmarie and Lisa and her partner, Bryan; cherished grandmother of Katherine, Matthew, Michael, Antonio, Nicolo and Gioia; sister of Leonard Vivolo and sister in law of Nick Ruggiero. She was predeceased by her mother, Anna Vivolo and her sister, Joanne Ruggiero. She also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews, with whom she loved celebrating all the special moments in their lives, as well as her many close friends.

Elinor Ann Pratt

She Loved Her Job, Traveling the World, Cooking Giant Meals and Entertaining Friends and Family

Elinor Ann Pratt of Revere passed away on December 2 at the age of 87.

Born in Everett on April 23, 1936 to the late Arthur Duffy and Elizabeth (Dougherty) Duffy, she was the beloved wife of 70 years to Frederick W. Pratt, devoted mother of the late Frederick Pratt Jr. and Steven Pratt, cherished grandmother (Nana) of Brian Pratt and the late Jeffrey Pratt and dear sister of the late Arthur Duffy.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Elinor loved to travel the world, cook giant meals, and entertain friends and family. She also loved her job, selling fur coats.

Priscilla Sanchez

April 3, 1928 – November 27, 2023

Priscilla A. Sanchez of Peabody, formerly of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

She was born on April 3,1928, the daughter of Joseph M. and Lauretta (Gillis) Burke of Revere.  She was a graduate of Revere High School and went to work at New England Telephone Company.

She shared 70 years of marriage with the late Edward R. Sanchez and is survived by five children: Linda Sanchez of Venice, Florida, Karen Walsh and her husband, Edward of Woburn, Joyce Gangemi and her husband, Dan of Leland, N.C., Laurie Lane of Manchester by the Sea and Edward Sanchez and his wife, Sharon of Duxbury. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Joseph M. Burke, Leo S. Burke, Mary (Halpin) Burke and Barbara (Lindskoog) Burke.

Priscilla dedicated her adult life to her husband and family.  She was happiest when spending time with her family and relaxing at her favorite place on Cape Cod.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield today, Wednesday, December 6 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

Mary Kaliris

“Grace Was in All Her Steps, Heaven in Her Eyes and in Every Gesture, Dignity and Love.”

Mary L. Kaliris, formerly of Revere and a long-time resident of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully on November 30th at the age of 89. “Grace was in all her steps, Heaven in her eyes and in every gesture, Dignity and Love.”

Born in Boston, Mary grew up in Chelsea and attended Saint Rose High School. Mary would reminisce about playing basketball, “three on three” she would say while showing off a picture in her uniform. After high school, Mary worked as a telephone operator and rounded out her career as an executive assistant at Bell Atlantic– now Verizon.

Mary was a great adventurer and would never turn down an invitation. She had a witty way about her, loved life which made her fun to be around. She enjoyed excursions and traveling with her friends and family, runs to her favorite casinos, card games, bowling and let us not forget a good game of bingo. She enjoyed dining out always searching for the ultimate fried clam plate and lobster roll. Mary was an avid reader and a passionate fan of New England sports. “Even for an Irish girl” as her husband would banter, she was a great Greek cook.

Mary was fiercely loyal and had unwavering faith in God and those she loved. Most importantly, she was kind and best known for her caring nature and dedication and love for her family. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, loving them unconditionally.

Mary was the beloved daughter of the late William and Evelyn Dillon. She will be remembered as the caring and loving wife of the late Charles R. Kaliris with whom she shared 59 years of marriage and the devoted and treasured mother of the late Charles “Chuck” Kaliris and his wife, Karen of North Reading, William Kaliris and his wife, Denise of Melrose and Christine Kaliris of Winthrop; beloved Nana to Diane Kaliris-Velez and her husband, Albert, Mark Kaliris and his wife, Kaitlin, William, Dillon and Matia Kaliris; adored Great-Nana to Charlie and Vincenzo Kaliris; dear sister of William Dillon and his wife, Phylis of Middleborough and the late Evelyn Glowik, Margaret Concannon and John Dillon. Mary is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary on Friday, December 8th at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street, Melrose from 4 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9th at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 17 Grove St, Lynnfield. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett following the mass.

Philip L. Screnci

Retired Owner of Sunrise Produce in Chelsea

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Funeral Mass on Friday, December 15th at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere for Philip L. Screnci who died on November 12th at the Holly Manor Nursing Facility in Mendham, NJ following an extended illness. He was 80 years old. Interment will be held privately.

Phil was born in Boston on February 28, 1943 to the late Joseph and Phyllis (Pergola) Screnci. He was raised and educated in Revere and a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1960. Upon graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy, with tours of duty in Europe and Cuba and one that included a NASA recovery mission. He was honorably discharged and returned home to further pursue his education by attending Bentley University where he earned an associate degree in accounting and finance.

Phil worked for the brokerage firm Moseley Hallgarten and Eastbrook, and eventually, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, established, owned and operated his own company, Sunrise Produce in Chelsea before retiring. During this time, Phil was a proud and loving father of his two children and a very proud papa to his grandchildren and extended family. Phil also had a very deep faith and was a eucharistic minister at his parish in New Jersey, where he spent the past 18 years.

The loving father of Jonathan P. Screnci of Somerville and Jessica P. (Screnci) Peacock and her husband, Charles Peacock of Saugus, he was the cherished grandfather of Emma Rose and Sarah Jessica Peacock, the dear brother of

Joseph Screnci and his wife, Toi of Colorado and Thomas Screnci and his wife, Joan of New Hampshire and the beloved longtime companion of Mary Ackerman of New Jersey. He is also lovingly survived by his former wife, Shiela A. (Reardon) Screnci of Saugus and by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
