Attoui Scores Three Touchdowns As RHS Claims Its First Victory

Abbas Attoui returned to the field and made his presence felt immediately for the Revere High football team.

Attoui, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior captain, scored three touchdowns to power the Patriots to a 36-0 victory over Somerville Friday night at Dilboy Stadium.

“It was great to have Abbas back – he just excelled in all phases of the game,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli.

In a notable display of versatility, Attoui rushed for 90 yards on two touchdowns and blocked a punt, scooping up the football and returning it 30 yards for a third touchdown.  Attoui also caught a two-point conversion pass from Mehdi Bellemsieh to make it a 20-point overall performance.

Attoui had been sidelined with an injury that he sustained in the season opener versus Peabody.

“Having Attoui at fullback opened up the field for other players in the offense,” said Cicatelli.

Giovanni Woodard opened the scoring with a 6-yard run on Revere’s opening possession in a 29-point first quarter. Yousef Benhamou raced 40 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to complete Revere’s scoring.

Quarterback Carlos Rizo was 7-of-10 for 108 yards passing.

Walter Rodriguez, Medhi Bellemsieh, Abbas Attoui, and Nico Aguirre were standouts on defense, according to Cicatelli.

Big game for Felipe Maia

Revere’s outstanding placekicker and punter had another strong effort on special teams.

Maia was 4-of-4 on PATs and had a successful onside kick that was recovered by Mehdi Bellemsieh.

“He flips the field (pins the opponent back in its own territory with his punts) every week – he’s been a real plus. He’s been really consistent,” said Cicatelli.

Revere (1-5) plays Lynn Classical (4-2) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Manning Field in Lynn.
