William John Gianci

Of Maryland, formerly of Revere

William John Gianci passed away peacefully on September 29 at the age of 89.

Born in Revere on June 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Anthony and ? Concetta (DePalma) Gianci.

He was a cherished father to Dr. Sebastiana Jennifer Gianci and Paul James Lafornara of Ellicott City, MD, as well as the devoted Nonno to Nikai and Gabriel Lafornara. He was a beloved brother to Anthony Gianci, Jr., Robert Gianci and Marie Gianci of Massachusetts and former husband and friend to Ann Lucia Gianci of blessed memory. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather? to celebrate? the life of William John?Gianci at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Rd., Catonsville, MD? on Monday, October 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service to take place at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in William’s memory to Catholic Relief Services.

Joseph Cook

Butler Aviation Retiree

Joseph “Joe” W. Cook, 86, of Revere passed away on September 26 at the age of 86.

Joe was born June 15,1937 in Horton, Alabama to Daniel Sr. and VeElla (Smith) Cook on their family farm along with ten other brothers and sisters.

In 1955, Joe joined the U.S. Navy, serving honorably for three years. During a port call in Boston, Joe met his future wife, Arlene and relocated to the Boston area after his discharge to marry and start a family.

Joe had a general aviation career at Logan Airport for over 40 years, primarily for Butler Aviation, where he was respected and loved by all his co-workers while never missing a day of work. During this time, Joe was also an avid bowler participating in many leagues and loved to play pool as well.

Upon retirement, Joe and Arlene moved to Joe’s family farm in Alabama where they enjoyed 10 years of country life. They then returned to the Boston area where they resided at the Jack Satter House in Revere, with Joe making many friends, particularly with the poker club there.

Joe was predeceased by his aforementioned parents and three of his siblings, Tilton, Daniel Webster and Ida Lee (Hopper). He is survived by seven other siblings: Michael, George, Vicki (Potash), Rosie (Dean), Joyce (Blackwood), Juanita (Johnson) and Bonnie (Mahan).

He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Cook and his three children: Kenneth and his wife, Donna of Newtown, CT; Michael (predeceased by his wife, Shawn) of Revere and Michele Gibson and her husband, David of Stoughton.

He also leaves his grandsons: Michael Cook (and wife, Colleen) of Lynn, Brian Cook of Leominster, Mathew Cook of Revere, Christopher Nessco (and wife, Leah) of Leominster, Jonathon Gibson of Stoughton and granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Gibson of Stoughton. Joe is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Travis and Vanessa, as well as another great-grandson on the way.

Michael McLaughlin

Retired Revere Police Officer

Michael J. McLaughlin of Peabody passed away on September 28th at the age of 73.

Born in Winthrop on July 10, 1950, Michael was a Purple Heart Vietnam Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After the war, he continued his service as a police officer for the City of Revere for many years.

Michael was the beloved husband of the late Jean M. (Decoste) McLaughlin, father of Richard McLaughlin and his wife, Kim of Revere and Jennifer Cassidy and her husband, George of New Hampshire; proud grandfather of Richard, Tyler and Major McLaughlin, Ellie and Cora Cassidy and Sarah Chiaradonna and the great grandfather of Arthur and Quintan Chiaradonna. In addition to his own children, Michael was the loving step father to his late wife Jean’s six children, caring grandfather to 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Michael was an exceptional brother to Patty (Jim) Larson, Bill (Sue) McLaughlin, brother in law to Bob Petrella and was the favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Petrella.

Visiting Hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 8th at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 9th at the Gately Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Robert LaPorta

1955 — 2023

Robert LaPorta, 68, of Revere passed away suddenly on September 25. He was born in Boston on June 4, 1955 to the late Pasquale and Virginia LaPorta. 

Robert was a devoted husband to Annette LaPorta, with whom he shared 40 years of unwavering love and commitment. He was a loving and proud father to his three daughters, Deseree Joy, Alicia LaPorta and Tyra LaPorta. Robert also adored his granddaughter, Layla Joy, and cherished his son-in-law, Nathan Joy. He was a loving brother to his sister, Stella Smith, and his brother, Vincent LaPorta and a caring son to his late parents.

Robert cherished his family and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. In his career, Robert worked as a courier for Quest Diagnostics ensuring the swift and secure delivery of specimens. He took pride in his work and approached it with dedication and integrity. Robert had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He had a passion for metal detecting, and coin collecting always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Camping and fishing was another favorite pastime of his, where he found solace in the peacefulness of nature. These hobbies allowed him to unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Robert will be remembered for his loving nature, sense of humor and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He leaves behind a lasting impact on his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories and laughs they shared together. 

In accordance with his wishes, Robert will be privately cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor his memory, allowing family and friends to come together and share stories, laughter and cherished memories.

Robert LaPorta will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, love,and gentle spirit will forever be remembered. May he rest in eternal peace.
