Patricia H. Jones

Late Proprietor of Mr. Flower & Mrs. Flower on Broadway, Revere, She Was Dedicated to the Revere Community

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, August 30, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for Patrica H. “Pat” (Gotowala) Jones, late proprietor of Mr. Flower & Mrs. Flower on Broadway, Revere, who died on Saturday, August 12, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, following a long illness. She was 82 years old. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere. Interment will immediately follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Boston.

Pat was born on October 4, 1940 in Chelsea to the late Joseph and Helen (Drigotas) Gotowala. She was one of three children and was raised and educated in Revere. Patti was married and raised her two children in Revere, while working at Anthony’s Pier 4 Restaurant as a waitress.

Pat fulfilled her dream of becoming a florist and opened her very own shop on Broadway, Revere “Mr. Flower & Mrs. Flower” where she worked tirelessly providing fresh beautiful flowers for her clients. Anyone who knew Pat would see her out in front of her shop, seven days a week. She was also very involved in the community and belonged to many organizations, such as, The Revere Lion’s Club, Revere Kiwanis and she was one of the Revere Library Trustees. She was a longtime sponsor of the Revere Little League and a past member of the “Red Hats.” Her dedication to her business and community was a hallmark of the person she was. She was always soft spoken, kind and warm hearted. She will be missed by all who knew her and called her a friend.

The loving mother of Patricia A. Reed and her husband, Robert of Norton and Stephen A. Jones of Revere, she was the cherished grandmother of Shannon Reed and her wife, Micheal Reed of Norton and the dear sister of the late Marcella Young and Marlyn Stampfli. She is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends.

Diane E. Whelton

Animal Lover, Active in Greyhound Rescue

A Funeral Service was celebrated in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza Beechwood, Home for Funerals on August 22 for Diane E. (Baxter) Whelton, 71, who died on Wednesday, August 16 at the Winchester Rehab and Nursing Center in Winchester following a long illness. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Diane was born on June 7, 1952 in Chelsea to the late  Julius and Blanche (McKay) Baxter.

She, along with her two brothers, were raised and educated in Everett. Diane was a graduate of Everett High School Class of 1970.

Diane worked in retail at The Jordan Marsh Company.

During this time, she met her husband, David Whelton and they were married on January 3, 1976. Her husband, David was an active-duty military officer and they traveled for a brief time, before relocating back to Everett.

Diane happily welcomed her daughter and son and was a proud and loving mother.

She later returned to the workforce and was a retail manager for The Hallmark Stores. Her career spanned nearly 20 years. Diane loved listening to music, dancing and having fun wherever she went. She loved animals and was a rescuer for Greyhound dogs.

She was the beloved wife of 39 years to the late David A. Whelton, Sr., the loving mother of Gwen E. Gustafson and her husband, Eric of Lynn and the late David A. Whelton, Jr.; the cherished grandmother of Kristen E. Bitaraes and her husband, Macksuel of No. Reading, Jake D. Gomez of No. Reading and Savannah D. Gomez of Lynn; adored great grandmother of Maverick David and the dear sister of Kenneth Baxter and his wife, Verna and John Baxter and his wife, Nora. She is also lovingly survived by her bestie and first cousin Helen Gray and Steven Albano, whom she considered to be her “second son” and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. To greet her at the rainbow bridge was her late fur babies: Gypsy, Haskell, Nina, and Pumpkin. Leonard “Len” Piazza

WWII Veteran; Past President of the Revere Historical Society; Active with Revere Schools, K of C and Rumney Marsh Burial Ground Committee

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere on Monday, August 21, for Leonard R. “Len” Piazza who passed away peacefully, with his daughter by his side on August 17. He was 96 years old. Interment and Military Honors took place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Born in Revere, the son of Carl and Mildred (Rocco) Piazza, he was raised in Revere and attended the Shurtleff, the McKinley and Revere High School, graduating in 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1948.

After returning home, he began working with Acme Steel Company. He moved throughout the ranks and eventually traveled throughout New England to train new employees. After Acme Steel relocated to Philadelphia, Lenny began a career with Container Corporation of America in Medford and eventually moved on to Bicknell and Fuller Corrugated Container Company from which he retired in 1992.

He was married to Shirley E. (Young) for over 46 years until her passing in 1996.

They raised their family in Revere and he was a very proud lifelong Revere resident. After his retirement, Lenny remained active in the community within the Revere Historical Society, where he served as President for three years, along with holding a seat on the committee of the Rumney Marsh Burial Ground.

He continued his strong ethic during his retirement working within the Revere after school program. He was also heavily involved in the Beachmont Improvement Committee and the Knights of Columbus. Len was also a faithful parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for many years.

He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley E. (Young) Piazza; devoted father of Deborah A. Sullivan and her husband, Walter of Waterboro, Maine and the late Robert L. Piazza, who passed away in 2021; cherished grandfather of Erin L.Murphy and her husband, Daniel of Bellingham, Caitlyn M. Maki and her husband, Benjamin of Wilton, NH, Jason R. Piazza and his wife, Angela of Salem and the late Patrick Sullivan; adored great grandfather of Walter, Tyler, Finnegan, and Summer and dear brother of the late Arlene Bolas and uncle of Paul Bolas and his wife, Tricia and Julie Corcoran.

Lawrence “Larry” Flynn

Long Time Employee of Eastern Airlines

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere on Saturday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., for Lawrence “Larry” Flynn, 84, of Naples, FL and Revere, who passed away on February 1, at his home in Naples, FL. A Funeral Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 12 noon.

A long-term employee of Eastern Airlines, he was born in Winthrop on September 6,1938 to Henry J. and Frances J. (McCarthy) Flynn and raised in Revere. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda (Travers) Flynn of Naples, Florida; his brother, Robert; sons, Larry (Mary), Brian (Renee) and Shawn (Jean); stepdaughters, Nancy (Steve), Susan (Andy) and Tina (Dan); three grandchildren and 13 step-grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: John, Charles, Henry, Francis, Marilyn, Geraldine, William, Joan, and Eugene.

Albert Rolli

U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, Member of VFW Mottolo Post in Revere and Melrose Moose

Albert F. Rolli of Revere passed away on August 18 at the age of 99.

Albert proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII. He was a member of the VFW Mottolo Post in Revere and the Moose Lodge in Melrose. In his free time, he enjoyed going to the gym, dancing, bowling, and visiting the various casinos in the area. He has been an active parishioner at St. Anthony’s Church for many years.

Born in Winchester on June 18, 1924 to the late Alfred and Antonetta (Tauro), he was the beloved husband of 38 years to Constance (Cella), devoted father of Joan Button and her fiancé, Stephen Brownson of North Andover; cherished grandfather of Janelle Beaudoin and her husband, Frank of New Hampshire and Timothy (TJ) Button of Arizona and adored great-grandfather of James and Veronica Beaudoin. He was the dear brother of Anthony Rolli and his wife, Mona of Peabody, Sylvia Buccilli and her late husband, Alfred of Lynnfield, Esther Dimino and her husband, Joseph of Middleton, Alfred Rolli and his wife, Josephine of Middleton, Raymond Rolli of Revere and the late Rita Arguti, Eleanor Meuse and Frank Rolli. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Wednesday, August 23 in St. Anthony’s Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visitation will be in St. Anthony’s Church prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
