Susanna Riola

Retired Administrative Assistant for the North End Waterfront Health Center in Boston

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting hours today, Wednesday, August 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere, for Susanna Riola of Revere, formerly of East Boston, who passed away on Thursday, August 3 at home in Revere following a courageous 23 year battle with breast cancer. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 670 Washington Ave, Revere today at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately.

Susanna was born on January 23, 1951 in Bucciano, Italy, the daughter of the late Nicola and Antonietta (Menali) Riola. Susanna was raised and educated in Italy. She emigrated to the United States when she was 23 years old, settling in the North End of Boston. Susanna eventually moved to East Boston, where she resided for over 20 years and has been a resident of Revere for the past year.

Susanna worked as an administrative assistant for North End Waterfront Health Center in Boston for 25 years, until the time of her retirement.

Susanna loved cooking and gardening. She especially enjoyed her favorite hobby of shopping. Above all, she adored spending time with her friends and family. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and dear friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.

Susanna was the beloved sister of Carmela, the late Giuseppe, Gina, Luigi, Cinzia, the Late Mario, the late Gerardo, Anna Maria and Biagio Riola. She is also survived by her cherished nieces, nephews and close friends.

Alfred Buccilli

Owned  Sub Time on American Legion Highway, a staple in the Revere Community

Alfred V. Buccilli, 94, of Lynnfield, formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully on August 6.

He was born in Revere to the late Carlo and Mary (Martino) Buccilli. After graduating from Revere High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an Army Medic while stationed in Germany.

Shortly after returning home, he met the love of his life, Sylvia, at the Ocean View Nightclub on Revere Beach.  Al went on to work at GE until age 40 when he decided to go out on his own and open Buccilli’s Sub Time on American Legion Highway, a staple in the Revere community.  Al truly enjoyed interacting and having conversations with the many patrons who walked through the Sub Time’s doors.

Al was very active in his beloved hometown of Revere, belonging to many organizations and serving as the License Commissioner for many years and most recently as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The beloved husband of 67 years to Sylvia (Rolls i), he was the devoted father of Paula Buccilli-Noto, cherished grandfather of Salvatore Noto, Amelia Noto, Adriana Buccilli, Paul Buccilli and Michael Buccilli and the dear brother of Dora Mackey. He is also survived by his two sons, Alfred P. and Carl V. and many nieces and nephews.

Al was a hard worker, a devoted family man and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday,  August 10 in St. Anthony’s Church, 250 Revere St, Revere at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visitation will be in St. Anthony’s Church prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
