Marguerite ‘Betty’ Galzerano, 86

Winthrop resident

Marguerite "Betty" E. (Rothwell) Galzerano, a 58-year resident of Winthrop, died on November 14 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. She was 86 years old.

The wife of the late Lt. Col. Samuel Joseph Galzerano (USAF), she was born in Boston and worked as a secretary in real estate business. A devoted wife and mother, she would spend the winters in Deerfield Beach, FL.

Mrs. Galzerano leaves three sons, Samuel Galzerano of New Hampshire, Paul Galzerano of Groveland, Richard Galzerano of Winthrop and two grandchildren, Richard and Lily Galzerano. She was the mother of the late Ethel Galzerano.

Her funeral service will be held in the Cliftondale Congregational Church, 50 Essex St., Saugus on Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Anna C. (Natale) Marotta of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on November 16.

A former East Boston realtor, she was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale Marotta with whom she shared 13 years of marraige; loving mother of Mary Ann Marotta of Revere; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Carmela (Marafino) Marotta; dear sister of Frances R.. Cristello of Revere and the late Gilda Pennell and Frank Natale; fond aunt of Cmille Cristello, Mary Ann Carvalho and Janice and Linda Natale.

Of Lynn, formerly of Revere

Doris (Fitzgerald) Farnsworth of Lynn, formerly of Revere, died on November 13 at the Lynn Union Hospital. She was 78 years old.

The daughter of the late Edward and Josephine (Farrel) Farnsworth, she was the beloved wife of Cecil E.; devoted mother of Rose Mahon and her husband, Wayne, of Danvers and Linda Costa and her fiancé, Steve Provo, of Lynn; dear sister of Joann Sforza of Georgetown, Edward "Buster" Fitzgerald of Wrentham and the late John "Jackie" and Robert Fitzgerald. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was the beloved mother of Gina Rose Prochilo-Cawston and her husband, David, of Roslindale; loving grandmother of Kailey and is also survived by her loving mother, four devoted siblings and her dear friend, Anthony Lanci.

Paul R. Pruitt of West Peabody, formerly of Beachmont Revere, died on November 14.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a life member of Beachmont VFW Post 6712 and the American Legion of Middleton Unit 0227. He worked for many years as the Mechanical Plant Manager for Brigham’s.

He was the long time companion of 31 years to Shirley A. Smith of West Peabody and her family; husband of the late Joan Altri; loving father of Paul W. Pruitt of Winthrop and John R. Pruitt and his wife, Donna E. (Costa) Wood Pruitt, of Beachmont; cherished grandfather and uncle of many; dear brother of Ola Adams, Grace Ellen Bullington, Boot McMillan and James Pruitt, all of South Carolina, and four late brothers and four late sisters. He was the brother in-law of John Altri Jr.

Daisy A. (Modugno) DiCesare of Revere died on November 13 at her daughter’s home after a long illness. She was 80 years old.

Born in Lynn, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Alphonina (Francis) Modugno, she lived most of her life in Revere. She was the former proprietor/office manager of Atlas Auto Body, a member of the Revere Historical Society, a former Den Mother Boy Scouts of America and an avid bowler who enjoyed ceramics in her spare time.

She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony; devoted mother of Vincent and his wife, Nancy, Anthony and his wife, Janet, Ferdinand and his wife, Paula, and Gail Shea and her husband, John, all of Lynnfield; dear sister of Lydia McDonough of Revere and the late Norma Modugno and Vilma Vonkahl. She also leaves an extended family member, Francis DeMarco, 11 loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Donald J. Woodside of East Boston died on November 14.

A US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a past member of Beachmont VFW 6712, Friends of East Boston and a 30 year MBTA employee.

He was the beloved husband of over 49 years to Rose (Chiodi); devoted father of Edward and his wife, Denise, of Saugus, Kevin, Boston Police Department, and his wife, Julie, of Winthrop and Donna of Revere; dear brother of Robert of Buzzards Bay, Alan of Minnesota and the late Edward and is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Kevin, Lauren and Nicole and his many loving nieces and nephews.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was born in Boston and lived most of his life in Revere. He worked as a beautician in Boston for many years before going to work at Polaroid.

He was the beloved son of the late Salvatore and Giacomina (Plaia) Agnese; dear brother of John of Norwood and Josephine McCormack and her husband, Leo, of Billerica and is also survived two loving nieces, four nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.

Irene V. (Bennett) Lapukas died on November 12 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington. She was 77 years old.

Retired Real Estate Broker for Century 21 and Hunneman-Coldwell Banker, both in Lynnfield, she was also head hostess at Augustine’s Restaurant in Saugus and owner of the King Neptune Restaurant in Malden during the 1980’s.

She was the beloved wife of Stanley J. Lapukas of Lynnfield with whom she shared 56 years of marriage; loving mother of Stephen M. Lapukas, Lisa M. Sciaudone and her husband, Sal, all of Lynnfield; cherished grandmother of Thomas S. Sciaudone of Lynnfield; loving sister of George Bennett of Saugus and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary H. Hibbard of Port Orchard, WA died on November 8. She was 69 years old.

She was born in Revere on November 29, 1939 to Wesley K. and Mary M. (Griffin) Camic. She married James R. Hibbard on November 29, 1973 in Chelsea and they have been together for 36 loving years. She loved music and dancing.

Gertrude (Lourie) Strasnick of the Aviv Center of Living in Swampscott, formerly of Marblehead, Revere and Boca Raton, Florida died on November 10.

Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Revere High School. In her earlier years, she was a decorator at the Andrew Dutton Co. in Boston and in 1968 she became a real estate agent at Carlson Realty until moving to Florida in 1977. She was a life member of Hadassah, The Order of Eastern star and a former member of Temple Israel (now known as Congregation Shirat Hayam) in Swampscott.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Strasnick; devoted mother of Janice and her husband, Irwin Cohen, of Swampscott, Kenneth Strasnick of Greenwich, CT, and mother in law of the late Caren Strasnick; loving sister of the late Rose Goldberg, Ann Gorin, Lee Meyers, Sam Lourie, Sippy Lourie, sister in law of the late Bea Strasnick, Sam Strasnick, and Sarah Morse; cherished grandmother of Thomas Cohen and his wife, Susan King, Jim Cohen, Lauren Strasnick, Aaron Strasnick, and great-grandmother of Andrew, William, and Alexandra Cohen.

Lillian Ellerin

Clerk for Department of Unemployment

Lillian (Lescovitz) Ellerin of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on November 11. She was 93 years old.

Born in Cambridge, she was raised in Chelsea and lived in Chelsea for more than 60 years before moving to Revere. She worked as a clerk for the Division of Unemployment and will be remembered by her family as a devoted homemaker who had a strong influence on everyone she touched.

She was the devoted wife of the late Myer Ellerin; beloved mother of Dr. Philip S. and Barbara Ellerin, Anita Lederman and John Dobbyn, Jr. and Robert W. and Vilaiwon Ellerin; adored grandmother of Sarra Lederman, Marc and Shari Lederman, Todd and Mahla Ellerin, Lauren and David Cohen, Janice Ellerin and Paul Ellerin. She was the cherished great grandmother of seven.

Private services were held at the Mishna Cemetery in Everett with arrangements by the Goldman Funeral Chapel of Malden. Expressions of sympathy may be donated to the charity of one’s choice.

John P. McDonough Jr. of Marietta, GA., formerly of Brighton, died on October 13. He was 62 years old.

He was the loving brother of Maureen Bouvier and Elizabeth Jalowick, both of Revere, Helena McDonough of Falmouth, and the late Fred McDonough of South Weymouth; beloved brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Sheila M. (Budney Howard, a 31 year resident of Everett, died on November 10 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was 60 years old.

A homemaker, mother and grandmother, she was born, raised and attended schools in Chelsea.

She was the beloved wife of 41 years of Robert E. Howard Sr. of Everett; devoted mother of Robert Howard Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Everett, Scott Howard and his wife, Shye, of Florida, Angel Daigle and her husband, Billy, of Revere and the late Timothy Howard; dear sister of Richard Budney and his wife, Sandy, of North Brookfield, Bette Mohr of Hingham, Beverly Gallant of North Andover, Patricia Sobolewski of Revere, Sandra Laft and her husband, Richard, of Saugus; sister in law of the late Russ Mohr, Al Gallant and Robert Sobolewski; loving grandmother of Chanel, Timmy, Michael, Faith and the late Chuckie. Stephen Melesciuc

Retired Chelsea Building Inspector and Zoning Board Officer

Stephen Melesciuc of Chelsea died on November 9 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was 87 years old.

A lifelong Chelsea resident, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Chelsea High School. He worked for the City of Chelsea for over 30 years as a Building Inspector and then later as a Zoning Board Officer. He was a fan of horse racing and enjoyed frequent visits to Revere Beach to enjoy the view of the water.

He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Bilot) Melesciuc; devoted father of Barabara Melesciuc – Cormier and her husband, Walter, of Everett, Susan Melesciuc of Chelsea, Stephen Melesciuc and his wife, Kathryn, of Reading, Robert Melesciuc and his wife, Jeannie, of Wrentham, James Melesciuc and his wife, Joanne, of N. Reading and Edward Melesciuc of Chelsea; dear brother of the late Alex Melesciuc and brother in law of Anne Melesciuc of Revere. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
