Margaret (D’Agostino) Romano of Medford, formerly of East Boston, died on July 6. She was in her 104th year. Rosalie M. (Lombardo) Giunta of Malden, formerly of East Boston, died in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer on July 5. She was 85 years old.
For many years, Mrs. Giunta was a stitcher with the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union.
She was the beloved wife of 60 years to Michael J. Giunta; devoted mother of Catherine Quinn of Malden, Sandra Spencer and her husband, John of Saugus, Michael Giunta and his wife, Susan of Danvers, and Ronald Giunta and his wife, Charlene of Peabody; sister of Lena Amico of Tewksbury and the late Giacomo Lombardo, Rose Lomuscio, and Mary Picardi. Mrs. Giunta is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Deborah A. (Sparks) Savino, a lifelong resident of Everett, died at home on July 6. She was 63 years old.
A nurse who worked in many hospitals and nursing facilities and a real estate broker, she was the beloved wife of more than 48 years of John Savino; dear and devoted mother of Joyce Savino and her husband, Stephen Skeirik and Gina Savino-Middleton and her husband, Bruce Middleton of Everett, Louis Savino and his wife, Patricia of Rowley and the late Lisa Savino; sister of the late Sandra Sparks; loving “Nana†of Deborah Jon Toupouzis, Gianna Helen Toupouzis, Nicholas Edward Middleton, Isabella and Sofia Savino. Deborah was a nurse who worked in many hospitals and nursing facilities and she also was a real estate broker. A volunteer for many years at the Lighthouse Nursing Home, she was a former employee Wonderland Dog Track.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Albano) Selvitella; dear sister of Celeste Belschner of Revere and the late Louis Selvitella and Humbert Selvitella and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Of Rhode Island, formerly of East Boston
Mary R. (Laurano) Memmolo of Burr Avenue, Barrington, RI died Saturday at the Orchard View Manor Nursing Home in East Providence in the care of Odyssey Hospice. She was 93 years old.
The wife of the late Dante M. Memmolo, she was born in East Boston, the daughter of the late Anthony and Rita (Cantalupi) Laurano. She previously lived in East Boston and Falmouth before moving to Barrington, Rhode Island in 2002. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in East Boston and Saint Patrick’s Church in Falmouth, where she worked as parish receptionist. She was a proud, lifelong Democrat and served as a poll worker in her precinct for 20 years. She was also an enthusiastic participant of Cornerstone Adult Services in Bristol during her years in Rhode Island. She had a deep reverence for life and took great pleasure in being with her family.
Mrs. Memmolo is survived by her devoted sons, Dante Memmolo, Jr. of Nashua, NH and Anthony Memmolo, of Warren, RI; her loving daughters, Mary Jane Marcucci of Tewksbury, MA, and Margaret Shand and her husband, Michael of Barrington. She is also survived by two sisters, Catherine Melchionda of Beachmont and Gloria Laurano of East Boston; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandson as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Michael Memmolo and the sister of the late Anthony Laurano, Eleanor Laurano, Edna Buonagurio and Ella Letterie. Louis DiSarcina
1960 Diver of the Year
Louis F. DiSarcina of Revere and Somerville died on July 1.
A founding member of the Yankee Flipper Scuba Diving Club, he was one of the first divers certified in scuba in New England and was Diver of the Year in 1960. He enjoyed music, playing cards, watching westerns and thoroughly enjoyed his grandson, Sebastian and his entire family. A member of the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War, upon returning home, he built multiple businesses in Belmont and surrounding areas.
He was the father of Ben DiSarcina and his wife, Jenn of Somerville; son of the late Bernard and Mary DiSarcina; brother of Teresa Tuccelli of Somerville and the late Rose Tuccelli and John DiSarcina and grandfather of Sebastian DiSarcina. He is also survived by many adored nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

Disabled Veteran
Carl V. Myers of Chelsea, formerly of Revere, died recently. He was 63 years old.
A US Army veteran of the Vietnam War who served two tours of duty before finally being discharged in September of 1972. He was a service related 100 % disabled veteran which was service related. He later was a well driller, cab driver, and also worked in the maintenance department at the Miami Veterans Hospital.
He was the beloved son of Alice (Porter) Perry of Revere and the late James Myers, brother of Jim and Tom Myers and is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jessie Flagg
Supervisor of Records at Soldiers Home
Jessie A. (Sacco) Flagg of Revere who died unexpectedly at the Mass. General Hospital in Boston on July 5. She was 91 years old.
Born and raised in Revere, she was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1939 She went to work for the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home as a young girl and retired in 1991 after 40 years of service as the Supervisor of Medical Records.
At the Soldier’s Home, she made many friends and remained in contact with them until recently. She was the
recipient of several awards, citations and commendations for outstanding performance in the performance of her duties as Supervisor of Medical Records.
As a member of St. Anthony’s Parish in Revere, she was active in many activities and, for many years she was the personal secretary to Msgr. Guido Pallotta, one of the early pastors of the church. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Ladies’ Sodality and the Anthonian club of the Parish.
“Jessie†was most proud of two early accomplishments at the age of 13 years. That’s when she competed and won the “School Champion Speller†for the Paul Revere School of Revere. Days later, she won the title of “District Champion Speller†for the Revere area. Those competitions were sponsored by The Boston Evening American and the Boston Sunday Advertiser Spelling Bee in April of 1934!!!
The wife of the late Charles P. Flagg, she was the cherished mother of Albert E. Flagg and his wife, Anita of Salem; beloved grandmother of Amy Jessica Livermore and her husband, Parker and adoring great grandmother to Madison A. and Halle M. Livermore, all of Marblehead; dear sister of Marie Gatto of Reading, Anthony Sacco and his wife, Joan of Revere and the late Evelyn Femino, Francisco and Nicola Sacco; loving companion to the late Anthony Longo and is also survived by many caring, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.

James E. Pinksten of New Hampshire, formerly of Chelsea, died surrounded by his loving wife and children, died on July 7 at Exeter Hospital following a long illness.
He worked for U.S. Gypsum Co. and Eastern Tool and Stamping Co. where he retired as Union President of Local IUE #263. He moved to Sandown, NH in 1996 where he led a rich and wonderful life enjoying his home by the lake, playing golf with friends, and especially enjoyed ballroom and square dancing with his wife Joan (Petricone) and their many friends all over New England.
Born and raised in Chelsea, the son of Ernest and Anna (O’Regan), in addition to his loving wife, he will be deeply missed by his children, Michael and his companion, Gina White of Chester, NH, Sharon and her fiancé, Mark Williams of Chelsea, Steven and his companion, Gail Mazzio, and James Jr and his companion, Christine Landry of Revere. He was the beloved stepfather of Donna and her husband, Jim Gabriel of Newburyport, Michelle Proto and her fiancé, Rich Mullins of Nashua, NH and Robert Proto of Everett; devoted brother of Hazel and her husband, Bill Cordeau and Charlie Pinksten, all of Saugus. He was the brother of the late Robert Pinkesten and Joan McCann as was lovingly embraced by his eight grandchildren, Alanna, Erik, Michael, Jenna, Allison, Ryan, Brooke and Emma and many, many friends. He was the former husband of Rita Eriesian (Camarot) of Revere.
A funeral service was held on July 11 at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home in Plaistow, NH.

Anthony A. Capaldo of Taunton, formerly of East Boston, died on July 1 after a long illness at the Boston Medical Center. He was 65 years old.
Born in Cambridge and raised and educated in East Boston, he lived there until moving to Taunton seven years ago. He was a 1965 graduate of East Boston High School and spent much of his working career within the City of Boston as the Deputy Sealer of Weights & Measures. After retirement from his Boston position 15 years ago, he re-entered the work force as Sealer of Weights & Measures for the Town of Winthrop, a position he held until his death.
He was the beloved husband of Elaine M. (Fortier) Capaldo of Taunton, formerly of East Boston; the cherished father of Denise M. Freedman and her husband, Greg, of South Easton, MA and David A. Capaldo of Taunton; devoted grandfather of Olivia R. and Madelyn L. Freedman; dear brother of John and his wife, Maureen of Newton, Albert G. Capaldi and Flora M. Flamenco, both of Revere and the late Frank Capaldo. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Pasquale and Jennie (Patovano) Capaldo.

Joseph Fassi
Chef for Valle’s Steak House and Kernwood
Joseph S. Fassi of Center Ossipee, NH, formerly of Revere, died unexpectedly on June 26. He was 51 years old.
Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Revere and lived in Revere until moving to Center Ossipee, NH in 2002. He was a 1978 graduate of the Northeast Vocational School of Wakefield with a major in food services. From his youth he showed an avid interest in cooking and food presentation.
He began his career at the former Valle’s Steak House of Saugus on Route One as an apprentice chef and later became the head chef. While employed by Valle’s, he traveled throughout New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont training other chefs. He spent more than 10 years with Valle’s before moving on to the former Kernwood Restaurant of Lynnfield where he was head chef for more than 10 years.
Mr. Fassi became ill with Diabetes about 10 years ago which forced him into the ranks of the disabled. Because he had a passion for his profession, he always worked toward returning to work.
He was the beloved son of the late Joseph N. and Anna (Testa) Fassi; devoted brother of Eugene S. Fassi and his wife, AnnMarie of Orlando, FL, Judith A. Dennison and her husband, Arlen of Bradford, MA, Robert G. Fassi of Ossipee, NH, Stephen A. Fassi and his wife, Stacey of Londonderry, NH and Charles J. Fassi and his wife, Jodie of Goffstown, NH, He is also lovingly survived by several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

John Grainger, a 41 year resident of Revere, died unexpectedly following a long illness at his Revere home on July 4. He was 72 years old.
His family lived in East Boston before moving to Beachmont Revere in 1971. Mr. Grainger worked as a supervisor of maintenance for more than 20 years for Kenney Management Systems before retiring in 1999.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Sydney and Gertrude (Torrence) Grainger, he was the husband of the late Grace M. (Fortune) Grainger who died in June of 1996; beloved father of Kathleen M. Briana and Patricia A. Grainger, both of Revere; grandfather of Rachele M. and Talya J. Briana, Rickie W. Briana and Edward and Sarah J. Grainger, all of Revere; brother of Barbara Caridieo of Boston and the late Donald, Briggie and Isabelle Grainger. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Leo ‘Babe’ Taglieri

Leo “Babe†Taglieri of Saugus, formerly of Revere, died on June 23 after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.
The husband of Laura (Nazzaro) Taglieri with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, he was born and raised in Revere, the son of the late Lucio and Angelina (Ermo) Taglieri. After attending Revere High School, he enlisted in the US Army during World War II. He was trained by Darbey’s Ranger’s for a special mission and jumped into France during the Battle of the Bulge Campaign.
After serving his country, he returned home, bought a 10 wheeler truck and started Tags Trucking. He joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 of which he was a proud member for 47 years. He started with one truck and turned it into Tags Bulldozer Service. He made a runway at Logan Airport, worked all over Boston, Revere and Saugus. ‘Babe’ could point out many interesting sites and developments of which he was proud to have worked on.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his step-children: Vincent Blengs of Revere, Diane Blengs of Saugus and her fiancé, Robert A. Flammia of Malden, who is also Babe’s best friend; the grandfather of William Walker IV of New York, Lt. David Walker (U.S. Army) of Saugus and his granddaughter, Rachel Walker of New York; the brother of Alfred Taglieri and his wife, Louise of Revere and the late Henry, Louie and Mal Taglieri, Hilda D’Amico and Jean Fellabella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. He was the brother in law of Robert and Judy Anderson of Revere.
