RHS softball team drops tourney contest; three named all-stars; O’Donnell coach of year

The Revere High girls softball team came up on the short end of a 15-3 decision this past Sunday at Shrewsbury in the opening round of the Division 1 state softball tournament.

Coach Megan O’Donnell’s Lady Patriot squad, who compiled a 15-5 record during the regular season, entered the tourney as the #36 seed in D-1, while Shrewsbury (5-13) was seeded at #29.

Shrewsbury moved out to a lead in the opening inning with four runs and then added three markers in the second before tacking on five more in the fifth to put the game away.

Frankie Reed (3-for-3), Caleigh Joyce (two hits), and Luiza Santos (one hit and two RBI) provided the offensive punch for Revere.

Although the loss ended the Lady Patriots’ season, it did not diminish their outstanding overall performance in 2024 that saw O’Donnell’s team finish third in the Greater Boston League (GBL) behind co-champs Everett and Medford.

Three Lady Patriots were selected to the GBL All-Star team: Sophomore 3rd base Frankie Reed; sophomore catcher Shayna Smith; and sophomore pitcher Danni Hope Randall.
