Vincent Milano

US Army Veteran of World War II

Vincent Milano, a lifelong resident of Revere, died on March 11 at the age of 94.

Vincent proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII and was awarded the Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from General Electric after many years as a machinist. Over the years, Vincent owned many Chevy Camaros, including the new SS he purchased on his 90th birthday. He enjoyed taking long rides with the love of his life, Louise by his side. Family was everything to him and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Born on March 23, 1927 to the late Vincenzo and Angelina (Marotta) Milano, he was the beloved husband of 68 years to the late Louise (Festa) Milano, devoted father of Vincent J. Milano and his wife, Vivian of Georgetown, Robert Milano of Wakefield/Lynnfield, John Milano and his wife, Margaret of Salem, NH and daughters in law, Mary Jo Milano of Lynnfield and Donna Neligon of Salem; dear brother of Carmela Infante of Revere, Joseph Milano of California and the late Salvatore Milano, Josephine DeSisto, Phillip Milano and John Milano; cherished grandfather of Heather Bisset and her husband, Jason, Stephanie Shepherd and her husband, Brad, Vincent Milano and his wife, Megan, Nicole Milano, Sophia Milano, Alyssa Milano, Bianca Milano and seven loving great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St, Revere today, Wednesday, March 16 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Revere at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Mora Ann Ambrosino

Devout Catholic Who Loved God, Family, Friends and Card Games

Mora Ann (Bruno) Ambrosino, 81, of Winthrop, formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2021 after a brief illness.

She was the beloved wife of the late Alphonse A. Ambrosino, loving mother of Kathy (Ambrosino) Balestrieri and her husband, Drew and grandmother to Drew Ryan Balestrieri.

Mora was born and raised in Revere to the late Joseph and Margaret (Castaldo) Bruno.

Mora, in her later years, moved to Winthrop and made it her new home. She was a loving, generous and kind wife, sister, mother, aunt and grandmother.

After a variety of secretarial jobs, she graciously settled in on being a housewife and mother after her daughter Kathy was born. She was a devout Catholic who loved God, family, friends and card games.

Mora was the sister of late Carmine Bruno (late Bella), and Marion Cozad (late Robert) of Revere. She was adored by nieces: Debra Scorzoni (late Bobby), Dorothy Ghisolfi and her husband, Claudio and nephew. Donald Cozad. She is also survived and loved by many more nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19        at 10 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Parish, (formerly St. John’s the Evangelist Church), 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop, followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Relatives and friends are invited.

Kerry Haughney

Revere School Teacher for 25 Years Whose Role as “Educator” Went Far Beyond the Classroom

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on March 11 in Ave Maria Parish – Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield for Kerry E. (Collins) Haughney who died on Monday, March 7 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford following a long illness. She was 79 years old. Services concluded with interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Kerry was born at home in Revere to the late George T. Collins, Sr. and The Honorable Katherine E. (Kerrins) Collins. She was one of four children, she had three brothers.

She was educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1961. Kerry had a deep passion for teaching and pursued a career in education. She graduated from Fitchburg State University, Class of 1967. She went on to receive two MBA’s in education from Boston State College and Salem State College, now called Salem State University.

Kerry married Joseph F. Haughney on December 29, 1971.

Early in Kerry’s career, she began as a teacher in Revere Public Schools. Due to her husband’s active-duty military status, she and her family later moved to Oklahoma for several years and she taught there. In 1974, Kerry and her family returned home to Revere and Kerry began her 25-year teaching career with the City of Revere. Kerry loved teaching and molding young minds.

Kerry and her family enjoyed many summers at their Cape Cod home in East Sandwich. She was very proud of her longtime role as Trustee of the Lynnfield Public Library. She was also a member of the Retired Revere Teachers Association.

Kerry took a great deal of pride in her family and her home which she filled

with love and happiness. She was most proud of her children and their accomplishments.

Kerry also enjoyed hosting her annual “Tea Parties” with over 40 ladies at her home. She was a great collector of fine China and crystal. Her legacy is her children and grandchildren and her role as “educator” went far beyond the classroom.

The beloved wife of 50 years to Retired USAF Lt. Colonel Joseph F. Haughney of Lynnfield, she was the loving and proud mother of Christine E. Dare–Bryan and her husband, Thomas H. of  Larchmont, NY, Jonathan J. Haughney of Seabrook, NH and Gretchen B. Haughney of Arlington; cherished grandmother of Henry J., Elisabeth A. and one more grandson on the way; devoted daughter of the late George T. Collins, Sr. and The Honorable Katherine E. “Kitty” (Kerrins) Collins; dear sister of the late Attorney Robert F. Collins, Stephen F. Collins and George T. Collins. She is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Marie Matarese

Former Editor of the East Boston Times

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Visitation in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) Revere on Friday, March 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. for Marie (Marcella) Matarese, a longtime resident of Revere, formerly of East Boston, who died peacefully surrounded by the love and care of her family on February 24 in Orlando, Florida, following a long illness. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at Spinelli’s Function Facility, Route 1 South, Lynnfield from 6 to 9 p.m.

Marie, of Revere, was a native of East Boston. She was educated and raised in East Boston and was a proud graduate of East Boston High School. Marie furthered her education at Hitchcock School of Business in Copley Square and was a proud graduate of that school. She was a longtime employee at the East Boston Times, where she began with in-house publishing, and continued on to working in the News Department, as a reporter, a columnist, an ad illustrator and finally, the editor.

Marie’s personality was unstoppable, there wasn’t a thing that she couldn’t accomplish. Following her long career at the East Boston Times, she later worked at the Post-Gazette. Marie’s talents were endless. She was also the owner of her own decorating business in Winthrop, “Decorator’s Delight,” which she owned and operated for several years and she then worked as a private decorator on the North and South Shore. Marie also worked at Macy’s in the Men’s Fragrance department for 10 years. She also sold conversational pieces. She owned all sorts of fine things, especially jewelry. She owned and managed several multifamily buildings in East Boston and Revere as well as condominiums along Revere Beach.

Marie was always dressed for any occasion. She was a beautiful and intelligent woman who had a flair for fashion, design and business. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life. She traveled to Italy several times, South America, The Islands, Disney and Ft. Lauderdale. She especially enjoyed spending her winters in Florida.

With all of her talents and skills, being a mother and grandmother was always most precious and sacred to Marie. She was most proud of her son and daughter, as well as their spouses, who she loved as if they were her own. Her grandchildren were on another level. She kept friendships that lasted a lifetime and had lots of them as they shared parties and life together.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph H. Matarese, devoted mother of Loren M. Russell and her husband, James of Salem, NH and Joseph Matarese and his wife, Tracy of Windham, NH; cherished grandmother of Derek Russell and his fiancé, Ashley Gaughran of N. Andover, Adriana Bolduc and her husband, Larry of Salem, NH, Isabella Matarese and Jake Matarese, both of Windham, NH; dear sister of John Marcella of Malden, Gerry Weinert of Revere and the late James Marcella; dear friend of the late Louis J. Torrone. She is also lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joseph “Pete” Labbe, Jr.

Member of America’s Greatest Generation

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) Revere for Joseph H. “Pete” Labbe, Jr. who died on Monday, March 14 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was 96 years old. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12:15 p.m. followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

“Pete” was born and raised in Chelsea, the son of the late Joseph and Marie A. (Beland) Labbe. He was educated in Chelsea Public Schools. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942, Pete enlisted in the United States Navy to defend his country during World War II. He served at the height of the war, and re-enlisted in the Naval Reserves for an additional five years. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1951 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic – Pacific Theatre Medal -5 Stars and the  Good Conduct Medal.

Pete married his beautiful wife and the couple remained in Chelsea, where they raised their three children. Pete was a devoted husband and father who worked very hard to support his family. He worked various jobs and was mechanically inclined. He held a position as a laborer at American Built Rite for over 20 years. He later took a position as a laborer at Castle Metal in Boston, for 15 years, until he retired at the age of 70. Pete only retired because the company was relocating to the South Shore. His talents and incredible work ethic allowed him to be an asset to the company. He was able to do the work of several men, and no one knew their craft like Pete.

During his years in retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and in later years, his great grandchildren. He was a “puzzle enthusiast,” who enjoyed assembling all types of puzzles, the most complicated puzzles were his favorite.

Pete left Chelsea in 1998, five years after losing his wife, Evelyn to make his home with his son, Ken and daughter-in-law, Susan in Revere. Pete’s humble upbringing, his love for his country and his commitment to his family are an example of why he and so many other of his era were defined as America’s “Greatest Generation.”

The beloved husband of 34 years to the late Evelyn (Demers) Labbe, he was the loving father of Alfred J. Labbe and his wife, Mary of Stoughton, Kenneth H. Labbe and his wife, Susan of Revere and Theresa M. “Terri” Camley and her husband, Robert of Everett; cherished grandfather to Janeen Labbe and her husband, Matthew Enos of Stoughton, Jason K. Labbe and his wife, Rachel of Woburn, Joseph R. Camley of Everett, Janelle S. Labbe of Revere, Deanna M. Camley of Malden and Lisa Labbe of Stoughton; adored great grandfather of Camille, Flavia, Isabella, Dorian and Brandon; dear brother of the late Evelyn Longo, Alice Basile, Jeannette Richard, and Yvette DeStefano. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
