Hundreds of enthusiastic students at the Whelan School welcomed Harlem Globetrotter Chris ‘Handles’ Franklin on Friday morning for a special surprise visit. Handles was moved by the Ms. Ferragamo’s 5th graders, who had studied African American history and the history of the Globetrotters. His one-hour presentation was as much about stressing education and character building as it was an amazing demonstration of Handles’s roundball skills. Students were mesmerized and excited as the Globetrotter brought students into the performance, here having first grader Germaine Borges (left) and kindergartner Sophia Faddouli (right) spin the ball on a pen.
