The Revere Housing Authority held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and kickoff May 29 for its new playground located within the Authority’s federal family housing development at Rose Street.
RHA Executive Director Dean Harris welcomes invited guests and children and staff from the adjacent CAPIC Head Start Program to the celebration.
Harris said the new playground was funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The RHA Board of Commissioners, including Chairperson Anthony Perrone, Vice Chairperson Fatou Drammeh, Treasurer Richard Viscay, and Member Kathi Reinstein appropriated the funds for the project.
The larger facility replaces the former playground located on site that has been converted into a new parking lot for residents.
The playground, distinguished by its simplicity, spaciousness, lighting poles, and mulch flooring, is providing much recreation and fun activities for children. The tall “Mega-Tower” has been an instant hit while The Whirl (also known as the Mega-Spin) is also proving to be immensely popular.
There are also four brand new benches situated at the edges of the playground. Harris said new picnic tables, fencing and covering will be added at the facility, “so families will be able to use the playground.”
“The playground is getting a tremendous amount of use,” proudly stated Harris, who is completing the second year of his successful tenure as RHA executive director. “The children have been handling the new playground respectfully, it’s being used by families, and we’re happy with the response it is getting.”
