Senior captain Giovanni Woodard rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns as the Revere High football team defeated Boston Latin, 40-20, for its fifth consecutive victory.
Woodard has eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing milestone for the season and enters the final two games with more than 1,200 yards.
“Gio had a big night,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli. “He had a 45-yard run and a 20-yard run for scores. He’s been tearing it up this season. He’s been great.”
Quarterback Danny Hou (150 yards rushing) had a 65-yard touchdown run and returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown.
“Danny plays sparingly on defense, but we put him in the game on a third-and-long play, and he picked it off and went the other way,” lauded Cicatelli.
Yousef Benhamou had 100 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Mario Ramirez and Charles Dobre were the leading tacklers for the Patriots. Reda Atoui and Joel Vasquez also sparked a strong defensive effort that held Boston Latin to one touchdown in the first half.
“Five in a row, and we’re on a roll,” said Cicatelli. “Everyone is playing very well. We want to keep the momentum going this week.”
Revere (5-4) hosts Wakefield (5-4) Friday night at Della Russo Stadium.
Five Revere High players
named GBL All-Stars
Five Revere High football players – seniors Gio Woodard, Danny Hou, and Joel Vasquez and juniors Mario Ramirez and Yousef Benhamou – were selected to the Greater Boston League All-Star team by a vote of the league’s coaches.
“I’m very proud to have five of our players receive All-Star recognition,” said Coach Lou Cicatelli.
Medford High senior quarterback Justin Marino was named the league’s MVP. It was Marino who kicked the winning, last-second field goal in the Mustangs’ 17-14 win over Revere.
