Ward 2 Councillor Ira Novoselsky was in his familiar perch high above courtside – the second row of the first balcony – for the Boston Celtics’ title-clinching victory over the Dallas Mavericks Monday night at the TD Garden.
A Celtics’ season-ticket holder since 1991, Novoselsky enjoyed the game with his 17-year-old granddaughter, Charleigh Novoselsky.
“This is the team’s second world championship since I’ve been a season-ticket holder,” said Novoselsky. “I love the Celtics. My favorite player is Al Horford.”
Asked if he attended the Celtics’ parade Friday, Novoselsky said, “No, I couldn’t be there, but Charleigh (who is the daughter of Seth Novoselsky and Jeannemarie Novoselsky) was at the parade representing the family.
Ira said he will now turn his attention to the Boston Red Sox season. He has owned Sox season tickets for 56 years and the team recently recognized him for his loyalty.
“Boston is Trophy Town, we all know since 2001 we have been somewhat spoiled with banners, trophies and parades however much like the pros will say our favorite championship is the next one.
The special significance of this recent championship was the selflessness we saw from the teams all stars during the entire series it was a toss up of who is the MVP. Porzingas, Jrue, JT, JB even Derrick White.
Boston’s run showed unbelievable teamwork and I think not only can other professional sports teams learn from them I believe we all can.
Congrats to the Boston Celtics, we are fortunate to live in such a great region.”
