RYBS 2019 Season in Full Swing

By Melissa Moore-Randall

Baseball season is in full swing at St. Mary’s Field, weather permitting of course! On any given night you can see the children of Revere lining all three Griswold Fields and enjoying themselves as they whack the orb around the diamond, whether it be big and yellow or small and white.

The Cardinals are stomping through their competition, as they remain firmly entrenched in first place in the Major League Division. Led by the prodigious bats of Phil Boncore and Matt McGowan, The Cards are keeping their eyes on the prize as they look to repeat as League Champions.

The Indians have locked up second place and the second first round playoff bye on the strength of solid contributions from Kyle Cummings, Seth Sullivan, Shayna Smith, Vincenzo Palermo and a cast of thousands. Playoffs will start on Thursday night, with the Phillies, Cubs, Red Sox and Diamondbacks all scheduled for 7:30 starts.

In Major League Softball, it is a one team race as the undefeated Flyers have locked up the regular season title behind the powerful bats of Marcella Bonfardeci, Kaitlyn Hurley, Layla Hiduchick, Laila Stroud, and Danni Hope Randall and the pitching of Gianna Scoppettuolo and Guiliana Micciche. Coach Scoppettuolo’s Flyers are undefeated at 11-0. The rest of the division is marching to the playoffs as the Jazz, Patriettes and Titans are in a tight cluster, with the Jets and Lightning following closely behind.

In the minors, The White Sox, led by the pitching and hitting of Zach Ward and Ayden Mejia, are undefeated at 12-0-1 with only The Athletics throwing a tie their way to keep them from a 13-0 record. The aforementioned A’s look to lock up second place this week with a victory over the fourth place Twins. The Tigers are riding an impressive 10-1 record in their last 11 games on the bats of Mason Hiduchick and Joe Ewing, Jr. and eagerly await the result of the A’s-Twins matchup to see if they can grab the number 2 spot. The first round of the playoffs will be Thursday and Friday night at 5:30, with the second round beginning on Sunday Night.

Minor League Softball is a big hit (pun intended) with many of the girls seeing huge improvements since the beginning of the year. Our T-Ball teams are locked in a 10-place tie for first place. The sun is shining, the birds are signing, and ball is being played. See you down the fields!
