Parks and Rec Offers Plenty to Do This Summer

There is truly something for everyone with this summer’s offerings from the Parks and Rec Department.

Fourth of July activities are being held at the Whelan School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Music, pony rides, inflatables, facepainting, BBQ, slush, popcorn and cotton candy.

Director Michael Hinojosa said the Parks and Recreation department over 260 kids are being served by the programs offered this summer through his department. But adults have plenty of opportunity for fun too.

“New this year we are offering co-ed adult softball” Hinojosa said. Games start now through Aug. 31, Griswold Field 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. “The summer basketball league is also popular this year.”

There is also free sea kayaking and paddle boarding starting from Elliot Circle on July 11 at 10 a.m.

Another sport not to be missed is the new Spike Ball Tournament.

Touch-A-Truck comes in on July 17, at Revere High School on Tuesday, July 17 from 5-8 p.m. Raindate is July 18.

Hinojosa said they also have numerous camps for kids, sports and activities. Everything from t-ball to bubble ball, to Wicked Cool Vet School, soccer, basketball, mad sciences and art camp. There are also dance camps for hip hop, musical theater and a classic wiffle ball tournament on Aug..25 at Griswold Field.

The Sunday Night Concert Series begin in front of the American Legion Post, 249 Broadway, on July 8 with North Shore Accapella; July 15, jazz; July 29, country; Aug. 5, classic rock; Aug. 12, Top 40 and Sug. 19, music of the Beatles. Concerts are from 5 -7 p.m.

The End of Year color party will also be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 5-8 p.m. at the Susan B Anthony field, $7 in advance; $10 at the door.

There are also several Friday field trips offered from a Red Sox game to Water Country.

Movies at the beach will also be making a return with Hocus Pocus on thursday, July 5, at Kelly Roast Beef. Lion King, Back to the Future, Coco, Moana, Jaws and Top Gun. Locations at Kelly’s Roast Beef or the bandstand.
