Revere Man Dies in Squire Road Crash

A 70-year-old Revere man died after being hit by a car on Squire Road, near Orvis Road, around 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.

The man’s identity had not been released by Journal deadlines pending notification of family members.

The driver of the vehicle was 21 and police said that it appears they were doing nothing wrong. Witnesses at the scene said the operator was going well below the 35 mph speed limit, and there was no evidence of impairment, i.e., drunken driving.

Charges have not been sought in the accident, but police are seeking video to review the events firsthand.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, the Nissan Rouge vehicle was traveling eastbound on Squire Road when it struck the gentleman, who was crossing the road and was described as wearing dark clothing.

Police did note that two streetlights right at the accident scene were not operable at the time of the incident.

The vehicle remained at the scene after the accident.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and immediately put into surgery. He died about 20 hours later.
