Police NEWS

OVER THE CIRCLE AND THROUGH WOODS

An early morning Thanksgiving jaunt left one man without a working car and with a jailhouse turkey dinner.

Around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24, police were alerted by a concerned resident of a car driving the wrong way down Ocean Avenue. Officers sent out an alert about a four-door grey car swerving erratically. Police headed towards Eliot Circle and noticed that the circle was in tatters, appearing as if someone had driven right across it. On the other side of the circle was a bumper lying in the roadway with a license plate attached – seemingly belonging to a grey sedan.

Police noticed that there was a very visible oil leak leading them down Winthrop Parkway. As they followed the oil path, a call came in from 9-1-1 that a grey car had crashed on Winthrop Avenue.

Police found the man sitting in his vehicle, which was crashed in the middle of the street, music blaring and lights on.

The car had no bumper, and the front plate matched the plate from the bumper left at Eliot Circle.

The driver was sleeping behind the wheel when they arrived. Police knocked on the window and he woke up. The man appeared to have a head injury and he was taken to the CHA Everett for treatment.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Samuel Cardenas, 45, of 8 Henry St., was charged with improper operation of a motor vehicle, vandalizing property, unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation and two counts of leaving the scene of property damage.
