Viola Speranza

Of Revere

Viola M. Speranza of Revere died on May 18.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Ariggapino Zinna and Sarah (Limoli); cherished mother of Linda Pasco and Patricia Espimos and her husband, Jay, all of Revere; dear grandmother of three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and adoring aunt to several nieces and nephews and loving sister to the late Mary DeRose, Helen Parziale, Frances Harris, Josephine Zinna, Bernard Zinna and Joseph Zinna.

Her funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere on Thursday May 26 at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church at 11 a.m.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  Visiting hours will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Lena Canton

Of Revere

Lena Cantone of Revere died on May 17. The beloved daughter of the late Felix and Anna (Galli) Cantone, she was the dear sister of the late Carmella Stuppia, Nicholas, Louie, George, Vincent, Victor and Andrew Cantone and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Louis Snyder

US Postal Service retiree

Louis D. Snyder of Peabody, formerly of Revere and Florida, died on May 18.

Born in Lynn, the son of the late Albert and Rose (Yudin) Snyder, he was raised and educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School. He was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.

He is survived by his dear sister, Hope Presson of Revere and was the loving uncle to Beaux and Sheva and devoted friend of Anthony Saggeset of Peabody and the Chapman Family.

Elena Pezzulo

Of Tennessee, formerly of Lynn & Revere

Elena (Urro) Pezzulo of Knoxville, TN., formerly of Lynn, and Revere, died on May 15.

She was the beloved wife of the late William Pezzulo and Don Lamy; loving mother of Anthony Pezzulo and his wife, Patricia of Peabody, Frank Pezzulo and his wife, Carol of Tennessee, William Pezzulo and his companion, Christina Baletsa and Richard Pezzulo and his wife, Sandra of Tennessee and dear sister of the late Ralph and Joseph Urro, Lena O’Connor, Mary Musto, and Angie Spinalli. She was the cherished grandmother of 12 and great- grandmother of nine and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Elena’s life at a Funeral Service to  be celebrated in her honor inside the Calvary Christian Church, 47 Grove St., Lynnfield, today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the VA National Cemetery Bourne. Charles Catyb

Revere native, longtime South Shore resident

Charles A. Catyb, a native of Revere and a resident of the South Shore, died following a long illness on May 12 at the Chelsea Soldiers Home, nine days shy of his 92nd birthday.

Born and raised in Revere, he attended Revere Schools and entered the US Navy in September of 1940, serving until July of 1947. Most of his working career was with the Quincy Shipyard for more than 30 years as a master welder. He then began a new career as a member of the security system at the Boston Aquarium where he remained for several years.

He was the son of the late Alley S. and Agnes (Orsagova) Catyb; the beloved brother of Albert A. Catyb of New Orleans, Louisiana, Martin F. Catyb and his late wife, Deanna of Revere and the late Alley S. Catyb, Rose and Joseph Catyb and Dorothy Burke; the father of Carol S. Bowser and her husband, Richard of Hudson, North Carolina, Robert A. Catyb of Hull and Katrina and Kayla Catyb, both of Brockton.; the grandfather of Michael R. Bowser and his wife, Aubrey of North Bergen, New Jersey, Ann M. Wilkinson and her husband, Jeffrey of Newport Richey, Florida and Robert and Christopher Catyb, both of Hull; and great grandfather of Clara and Adrian Bowser and Julianna Wilkinson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere.

Beatrice Callahan

Of Harwich, formerly of Revere

Beatrice T. ( Tierney ) Callahan   of Harwich, formerly of Revere, passed away May 17. She was 90 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Daniel Callahan, she was the loving mother of Patrick J. Callahan and his wife, Cheryl of Harwich and Dr. Mary Callahan MD and her husband, Michael Kszystyniak of Plymouth; dear sister of the late Nora Callahan, Mary Kilcoyne, and Margaret Tierne; cherished grandmother of Devon and Meaghan Callahan, both of Harwich, Bridget Callahan of Alexandria, VA., Daniel Kszystyniak of Plymouth, Jessica Kszystyniak of Los Angelis, CA and Andrea Kszystyniak of Omaha, Nebraska and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Ralph Mottola

Well known professional singer

Ralph Mottola of Revere died on May 18.

Ralph served in the United States Army, was a former mutual clerk at Wonderland Dog Track, loved music and was a well known professional singer.

He was the beloved son of the late Emilio and Jennie (Faia) Mottola; loving brother of Eileen Walsh of Revere and the late Mildred Ewing, Annette Cascio, Angelo, Augustine and Ronald Mottola; dear friend of James Martindale of Boston, Diane D’Orlando of East Boston and the late John Tucker. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and his cherished birds. Mary Permatteo

Of Revere

Mary (Develis) Permatteo of Revere died on May 18 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years old.

Born in Somerville, the daughter of the late Augusto and Emily (Simorelli) Develis, she worked at Sears for many years as a payroll clerk

She was the the beloved wife of the late Silvio Permatteo; devoted mother of Carol Bowden of Revere; dear sister of Lee Anderson and her husband, Larry of Woburn and the late Bernie Develis and his surviving wife, Josephine of Boxford.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Antoinetta Rossi

Active at St. Anthony’s Church

Antoinetta Rossi of Revere, formerly of Medford, died on May 18.

Antoinetta worked for many years at Schrafft’s Candy in Charlestown and Brewster Wall Covering Company in Braintree. She was a very active parishioner of St Anthony’s Church and enjoyed playing Bingo. She was a friend to many and will be missed by all.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Rosina (Paoletta); dear sister of the late Phyllis, Josephine, Esther, Lucy, Vera and Albert and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Alisha Anastos

A very special angel returns to Heaven

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours today, Wednesday, May 25 in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere from 4 to 8 p.m. for Alisha A. Anastos who was called back to heaven on Sunday, May 22, at the Lahey Clnic in Burlington following a long struggle with Cerebral Palsy and Diabetes. She was 43 years old. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere at noon. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody.

Born, raised and a lifelong resident of Revere, although challenged, she held a position at the Bass River Inc. DayHab in Beverly for several years until May 13 when she suddenly became ill. Her devoted and courageous parents, her most loved sisters and their husbands, all her nieces and nephews and her 93 year old grandmother are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and affection that Alisha’s life has bestowed upon them. Alisha was a member of the Revere Special Needs League, the Bass River Center and the Till at Don Guanelle Center.

She was the cherished daughter of William P. Anastos and Carol A. (McCorry) Anastos and the adored sister to Gina M. Noftle and her husband, Robert and Tiana L. Case and her husband, Alex, all of Revere; the beloved granddaughter to Theresa McCorry and her late husband, John McCorry of West Peabody; the devoted “Auntie” to Nicole, Jake, Kyle, Matthew and Tish and is also lovingly survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Leon DeRosa

Long time employee of Revere Housing Authority

Leon DeRosa of Revere of Revere died on May 9. He was 80 years old.

A US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, Leon worked at Revere Housing Authority Maintenance Department for many years.

He was the beloved son of the late Leo and Grace DeRosa and ear friend of many including Kathleen Pisano of Revere.

Bessie Donnarumma

Retired stitcher and office worker

Bessie (Emma) Donnarumma of Revere passed away on Sunday, May 22 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following a brief illness. She was 94 years old.

Born and raised in East Boston, she come to live in Revere over 70 years ago. “Bessie” worked as a stitcher in Boston’s Garment District and then spent several years with the former firm of O’Brien & Russell Insurance as a clerk, retiring at age 62. “Bessie enjoyed her family and home most of all.

She was the wife of the late Anthony Donnarumma and the devoted mother of Rose M MacPherson and her companion, David Tucker and John A. Donnaruma and his wife, Cheryl, all of Revere; the cherished grandmother of Donna M. MacPherson and her husband, Donny Higgins of Revere, John F. McPherson, Jr. of Michigan, William A. MacPherson, John A. Donnaruma, Jr. and his wife, Annapaula, all of Revere and Taryn Crotty and her husband, Jason of Scituate. She is also lovingly survived by great grandchildren: Timothy, Piper, Saxton, Emma, Ashley and Tristan and one great great grandson, Michael. She was also the sister of the late Mary Landolfi, Rose Alferi and Jenny Palumbo. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive her.

Marie MacLeod

Retired nurse’s aide at Grover Manor and Revere Memorial Hospital

(O’Brien) MacLeod who passed away on Sunday, May 22 in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she had been residing with her daughters for over a year. Her Funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Saturday, May 28 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Winthrop Ave. and Beach St.) at 10:30 a.m.
Marie was born and raised in South Boston and was an alumna of Gate of Heaven High School, Class of 1941. She moved to Revere over 70 years ago and worked as a nurse’s aide at the former Grover Manor Hospital of Revere and the former Revere Memorial Hospital (Lighthouse Nursing Center.)
The beloved wife of the late Revere Police Detective John E. “Jocko” MacLeod, she was the devoted mother of Jackie M. MacLeod, Marie Pendola and her late husband, Tony, Diane O’Hanlon and her husband, Dave, all of Wilmington, NC and CarolAnn Fleming and her husband Dany of Harrisonburg, VA; the cherished grandmother of Kelly O’Hanlon of Raleigh, NC, John O’Hanlon and his wife, Hannah of Boulder, CO, Nicole Pendola of Winston-Salem, NC, Stacy Pendola of Nashville, TN, Kimberly Pendola of Venice, CA and Jack and Lily Fleming, both of Harrisonburg, VA and  the dear sister of the late Katherine Rogers, Lorraine McDonough and Francis O’Brien. Margaret ‘Margie’ DeMaino

Margaret “Margie” C., 86, of Revere, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016.  Cherished daughter of the late Grover and Bertha (Kramer) Carrow.  Beloved wife of the late Leonard C. DeMaino.  Loving mother of Patricia DeMaino and her loving companion Michael Sullivan, Linda DeMaino, Sandra Petrone and her husband Leonard, Debra Mulligan and her husband Joseph and Heidi Rupp and her husband Paul.  Adored grandmother of Stacey, Jerry, Alison, Lenny, Michael, Jason, Gina, Steven, Joseph, Kevin, Kenny, Jennifer, Jonathan, Joshua, Olivia, Nicholas and the late Kristin.  Great-grandmother of numerous loving great-grandchildren.  Margie is the last living child of twelve.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.  Family and friends will honor Margie’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach St. REVERE on Friday, May 27th from 4PM to 8PM and again at 9AM Saturday morning before leaving in procession to St. Anthony’s Church in Revere for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in her honor at 10AM.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross in Malden, MA.  For guestbook and directions please www.vazzafunerals.com
