KANE SERVES AS COMMITTEE MEMBER
Florence Ferullo Kane, of Revere and Winthrop, former Order Sons of Italy State President, will be participating as a Committee member in an Italian Festival to be held on the Waltham Common in Waltham on Saturday, June 4th, from 11 am – 7 pm; rain date is Sunday, June 5th, same time. This charity fundraiser raises monies for scholarships for high school students in Massachusetts communities. Besides many food and non-food vendors, there will be free entertainment all day. Ducati cycles will also be present and there will be a live cooking demonstration.
Mayor Arrigo Invites All Residents To 2016 Memorial Day Exercises
Mayor Brian Arrigo and the City of Revere Veterans Services office cordially invites all Revere residents to the City’s 2016 Memorial Day exercises, to be held on Monday, May 30. The ceremony will begin at 11 AM on the lawn of the American Legion building, located next to City Hall at 249 Broadway.
Councillor recognized by college
Ward 1 City Councillor Joanne McKenna received an award for Excellence in Art Education this past Saturday from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for art educators from Massachusetts who have shown a lifetime achievement in serving the public. McKenna is a 1981 graduate of the college. There individuals are pioneers and innovators in their practice of helping their students develop artistic while promoting equity in access to art education.
McKenna was an educator in the Revere Public Schools for 32 years at the K-8 and high school levels. While at RHS she was also co-director of student activities, advisor for Weapons not Words, the Multicultural Teen Awareness Programs and counselor for the Transitional Summer Program which works to transition at-risk youth into high school.
McKenna has committed years of service to the City of Revere. She founded the Revere Beautification Committee and the Beachmont Improvement Committee. She has also received awards from the city, including Educator of the Year 2016, Citizen of the Year 2014.
McKenna also received her master’s degree in psychology from Lesley University, a master’s in Education from Fitchburg State, and a degree in Licensure in School Administration from Merrimack College.
