The Campaign Trail for the State Senate:Morabito Exploring Run for State Senate Seat

Revere Councillor-at-Large Steve Morabito, who won re-election to a second term in November, is considering a run for the State Senate seat currently held by Sen. Anthony Petruccelli, who announced that he is resigning his position.

“I’m very serious about running for the seat,” said Morabito. “As a city councillor, I’ve learned how often city issues relate to state law and I feel I could do more for Revere as a state senator. A lot of the motions I’ve put forward such as increasing the age of selling tobacco and issues I’ve worked with Rep. Reinstein and Speaker DeLeo on increasing minimum wage – there are lot of things at the state level you can be more effective at.”

The 37-year-old Morabito, who graduated from Revere High in 1996 and holds a degree in Business Management from Salem State, said he has been meeting with community leaders throughout the senate district that also includes Winthrop, East Boston, the North End, Beacon Hill, and parts of Cambridge.

Morabito praised Petruccelli’s service in the State Senate.

“Sen. Petruccelli has done a great job and we need to follow in his footsteps,” said Petruccelli. “When you speak to community leaders, you want to learn what he did really well and where there can be improvement.”

Morabito said he will make a decision about his candidacy following the official announcement of the date for the Senate special election.
