Revere Election Commissioner Diane R. Colella is predicting a 27.5 turnout of the city’s 25,055 voters for the Preliminary Election set for Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Voters can cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the polls. Absentee ballots are available until Monday at noon and must returned by Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Colella said the number of registered voters by party affiliation is as follows: 11,694 Democrats, 1,726 Republicans, 17 Green Rainbow Party, and 84 United Independent Party, along with 11,457 voters in the Unenrolled category.
The Preliminary Election has contests for the offices of Mayor and councilor-at-large.
In the mayoral contest, there are three candidates, Mayor Dan Rizzo, Councilor-at-Large Brian Arrigo, and Cheryl Whittredge are vying for the two nominations that would place them on the ballot for the final election on Nov. 3.
In the councilor-at-large contest, there are 12 candidates. The top 10 finishers will advance to the final election in November. The incumbents are Steven Morabito, Robert J. Haas Jr., Jessica Ann Giannino, and Anthony T. Zambuto. The other candidates are Francis C. Sarro, Edward L. O’Hara, Catherine Belinfante Penn, John R. Correggio, Priscilla Nickerson, Matthew P. Amato, George Rotondo, and Michael Falzone.
Colella said she is basing her prediction on the fact that in the 2003 Preliminary Election (featuring Mayor Thomas Ambrosino and mayoral candidates John Jordan and Robert Casoli) 27.5 percent of the eligible voters cast their ballots.
