Annmarie Gearraughty accepts the Purple Heart of her uncle, Harry J. Gearraughty Jr., from Commander Leo Agnew of the Order of the Purple Heart during a ceremony on Friday, Aug. 7, honoring all Purple Heart recipients in Revere and proclaiming Revere a Purple Heart Community. Gearraughty’s medal had been on display for many years at the Veterans Office, and Veteran’s Agent Nick Bua was able to locate the family to return it. Gearraughty served in the Army during World War II and was lost at sea. Annmarie said the family knew about the medal and always meant to get it back.
