Some five years ago, when the cast of Glee was touring the country, Revere’s Nick Silva landed a ticket to the show when it was in New York City, watching from all the way in the back row.
Since that time, he’s gone from a spectator in the back row, to one of the characters on the ‘Glee’ television show in its fifth and final season. He played one of the dancers in the group ‘Vocal Adrenaline’ for five episodes this year.
Silva, who now lives in North Hollywood, CA, was back in Revere this week and said he was excited to be on ‘Glee’ and is now trying to diversify himself as an actor and a singer to go along with his dancing ability.
“It was really good,†Silva, 23, said. “I met a lot of people who are high up in the industry…Everything has seemed to really open up for me and things are popping up. It still really hasn’t hit me. I didn’t think it would happen. Everyone always kind of tells you that if you move to Hollywood to follow your dream, it won’t happen. It definitely can if you just let it happen, don’t think about it and do other things to keep busy while staying focused on your goal.â€
Silva said he doesn’t have anything lined up right now, but has auditions in the works and is represented by Clean Talent Group.
He has previously danced in ‘Annie’ and was a dancer on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ Now, he’s hoping that he can expand his repertoire as an actor and singer.
“I’ve just started singing and I have acting classes lined up so that I can get better at that,†he said.
Silva’s trip on American idol was a testament to what $500 in airline change fees and several hours on the phone can do for one’s career.
After living in New York City for some time, Silva was preparing to move to California on a Thursday. As luck would have it, his agent called him and said he had landed an audition in California for ‘Glee.’ However, he had to be there on Wednesday.
“I spent several hours on the phone and ended up having to pay $500 to change my flight,†he said. “I did get there to the audition and two weeks later I ended up getting the part. So, I guess it was money well spent. I almost didn’t do it.â€
Silva graduated from Revere High School (RHS) in 2009, and competed on the gymnastics team – which no longer exists.
He said that since the age of 5 he has been dancing and doing gymnastics – often with his cousin Rachel Ferrante, who has a dance school on Beach Street.
“I’ve been dancing since I was five,†he said. “I tried every single sport when I was a kid and I always ended up dancing. I was on the soccer field doing cartwheels and handsprings on the baseball field.â€
Silva said he had to give credit to his parents, Robert and Mary Ann Silva, and his grandparents, Basil and Camille Bova.
“My parents and grandparents are the ones who helped me believe my dreams were attainable and I really feel lucky and fortunate to come from such amazing people, because life can really bring your hopes down sometimes and make you feel like your dreams aren’t possible, but they never let me believe that,†Silva said. “You can do anything you want to do as long as you work hard and want it bad enough.â€
