The Opening of School

Next week will mark the official opening of Revere’s Public Schools.

However, the McKinley School is already open for its extended learning program this week.

One would be hard pressed to imagine just how many moving parts there are when it comes to opening a large public school system such as Revere’s.

For the schools to be ready when they finally open their doors on August 28 – next Tuesday – approximately 6000 seats, 1500 of them at Revere High School alone – need to be set and ready to go.

Cafeterias and their employees must be ready to distribute thousands of meals a week and drinks everyday.

Janitors are scurrying about putting final cleaning touches and polish on the various schools as their doors are about to swing open.

The traditionalists among us bemoan the fact that school is opening before the end of the Labor Day Holiday but in this day and age, when there is so much to be done and so much to try to accomplish, getting a head start on the school year can make the whole difference.

The schools are just about ready – and so are the students.
