Girls soccer team triumphs in opener

The Revere High girls soccer team opened the 2010 campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over Medford last week.

A pair of underclassmen, freshman Paola Ortiz and sophomore Jackie Noel, provided the scoring impetus to give Lady Patriots the triumph. Ortiz scored in the first half, assisted by senior Captain Marisa Parent. Noel reached the back of the Medford net for an insurance tally in the second half, assisted by fellow sophomore Gina Restiano.

“It was a very good and evenly played game by both teams,” said RHS head coach Natalie Lyons. “We took better advantage of our opportunities and our keeper, (senior captain) Melissa Adreani, played a strong game to get the shutout.”

In addition to Adreani and Parent, senior Samara Neves forms the tri-captaincy for Lyons’s team.

The Lady Patriots were back in action this past Monday against former GBL foe Everett and then will host Northeastern Conference rivals Beverly this Friday, Gloucester next Monday, and Lynn English next Wednesday.
