Good Luck, Dr. Garcia – New RHS Principal is the right man for the right position

Dr. Lourenço Garcia will have his hands full succeeding David DeRuosi as the principal of Revere High School, but we understand from many sources that he is abundantly qualified for the task.

DeRuosi did an outstanding job. He brought Revere High School accomplishments in academics to a brilliant new high and there was a great relationship among teachers and administrators.

In other words, Dr. Garcia is stepping into a position previously held by an educator who knew how to lead a very diverse urban high school.

As the former principal of Woonsocket High School in Rhode Island, Dr. Garcia knows something about diversity as well as urbanity and its complexities.

Dr. Garcia grew up in Africa, in Angola, and then lived in Cape Verde. He holds a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts and he is able to speak several languages.

Choosing Dr. Garcia was not about endorsing diversity. It was about making the right decision. According to everyone who interviewed Dr. Garcia and who questioned him, he is the right man at the right time for this crucial job.

We wish him the best.
