Richard Bonilla was the lone winner for the Revere High boys tennis team in their season opening match against Salem on Monday.
Bonilla, a senior, battled hard in a grueling three set contest against his Salem counterpart which saw Richard pull out the win in the next to last point of the tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
The other Patriots who competed in the match were junior Malak Mossadek at first singles and senior Francesco Tartaglia at second singles. The doubles teams were manned by freshman Rich Mucci and junior Chaiwong Pariwat at first doubles and freshmen Mladen Pepic and Jon Truong at second doubles.
“We have a young team,†said RHS head coach Mike Flynn, noting that 13 of the 17 members of his 2010 squad are either freshmen or sophomores. “Last year we qualified for the state tournament for the first time in 20 years, so this might be more of a rebuilding season for us.â€
